my new guy has pluto in the 1st house and his pluto is not afflicted natally. among other stuff, we have venus (mine) and pluto (his) conjunct 1 degree in synastry. i have often read that the venus person feels more obsession in this venus-pluto dynamic, and boy do i, but would pluto in the 1st house alter that, or make the person more prone to obsessive behaviors since it's a 1st house placement?

Yeah, 1st house Pluto would be obsessive. Pluto colors their view of the world and how they approach things.

I've never experienced Pluto contacts to my Venus so can't answer your other question... hopefully someone else can chime in.
