Is there anything in a chart that would make someone prone to excessive bouts of Insomnia and nightmares?

Is transiting Pluto in your 12th? The 12th is the unconscious/sleep/dreams. You have Sun in 12th, no? 12th House Sun ppl tend to stay up all night.

Normally I don't remember my dreams (Saturn in 12th means heavy sleep, I guess) but the day transiting Mars entered my 12th a few nights ago, I started having bloody (Mars = red, violence; 12th = liquid, sleep) nightmares and waking up panicked. Weird because I haven't been watching horror movies or killing people. Not lately.

Haha yes. I sleep at inappropriate times of the night, sometimes all the way until 8 AM I am up. Its crazy!!! I just have a lot of energy.. lots of it!

How do you figure out transits and when they are happening? Do you watch a lot of horror films and does that ever affect your sleep?

Astro.com keeps track of the planets' movements, so you can just figure out where each of the transiting planets falls into in your chart. Astro.com also has an option for natal chart & transits in the extended chart selection. You can then Google "Neptune transiting 1st" (which you are probably going through if you have Aqua ascending, as Neptune is going thru Aqua now) and read about what that means.

I'm not into horror movies so I guess if I suddenly watched one, it could give me nightmares...

Well, you sure seem to have a LOT of mental energy. Overactive mind is typical of Aquarius. My mom is a double Aqua too and I think she thinks too much and that she'd be a lot happier if she thought less.

Whoever said dreams are the 12th is right.

Insomnia I'm assuming is a Gemini thing - mind constantly going, inability to turn it off type of thing.

Nightmares? Dunno, but I wanna say eighth, although that might just be because the eighth is typically associated with darker subject matter. Maybe it has something to do with connections between the eighth and 12th houses or their rulers? Purely speculation.

But my 12th house ruler is in the 8th and I dream of really disturbing 5h1t from time to time, so...
