This is how I view Sun Sign Astrology.

When you try to figure someone out with their sun sign alone it is like being in a library filled with books on a certain topic and saying that all of the books are same.

Only when you open the book and delve into the interior do you see how well written one might be from another, how much more information might be contained in one and not the other. Only then can you truly appreciate
the old adage "Never judge a book by it's cover".

How do you feel about Sun Sign astrology?

The Sun is a big influence, and I think it does grant a wide stroke of the brush across most of those with the same Sun...enough to where you can infer some generalities. Not with horoscopes, of course, but with personality.

Yes, I believe that it does infer to a persons personality traits, i.e. books of the same topic.

I just feel that there is so much more to a person then sun alone.
I know that for newbies learning about the Sun Sign is the first step and a very needed step, but once they delve into the horoscope of a person they learn what makes that person tick.

I have had friends and family who act nothing like their sun signs and when I was first learning astrology I was perplexed. Then when I started learning to read a chart, I begin to understand the meaning for that was sometimes a very poorly aspected sun or a non aspected sun. My brother is a Leo sun and a double Gemini, I use to be very frustrated as to why he just didn't fit the leo type and then I saw that he had an unaspected sun and a very powerful moon. With that double Gem in his chart it was then easy to understand why he was so fickle! lol ;-)

Yes, RegardesPlatero... Your spirit, if you will. I agree!~

But, how do you feel about the horoscopes in newspapers? that generalize sun signs and life experiences. I haven't found them to be very accurate at all and I feel that they give astrology a bad reputation in some ways.

You are so much more than your Sun. But I do view the Sun as an excellent starting point. Linda drew well from Sun Sign Astrology with her books Sun Signs and Love Signs--both of which I found to be highly accurate. She was also against daily horoscopes (although she said monthlies could hold some validity).

Horoscopes you get from the newspaper ect.
are actually Ascendant Horoscopes because they place that sign in the first house.

when I read them, I read them both.

I think sun sign astrology is needed if you want to learn astrology. However, it can be too generalized.

The problem with me is that I can't really identify with scorpio, and I'm loaded with scorpio and/or pluto influence in my chart. I seem to have an easier time "spotting" sun signs in others.

Sun signs are problematic when you are looking at relationships. My wife and almost all of my close friends are supposed to be totally incompatible just going by Sun signs alone.

a hasty sweeping generalisation. for sure there are core characteristics but still even then. sweeping generalisations are not conclusions.

i'm not supposed to get on with Caps according to sun sign astrology. well guess what, i like them quite a lot and get on fine with them. the attraction is too intense in the beginning in my experience. we always say we 'prove them wrong'.

nobody believes i'm a fiery sun. hah!

Some of my best friends are aquarius. Granted one is Capricorn moon, the other a cusper (Jan. 21st), but I'm not sure if that plays a role or not?

I personally feel that the sun sign is just as important as the rest of the chart and not more. SN, NN, moon, personal planets and the 12 cusps, not the mention the aspects involving all of these I feel are all equally important and influence equally the personality of someone.

Great minds and all...

I agree Randall, Linda had amazing insight, I haven't seen anything like her assessment of the signs. Those two books are wonderfully accurate and so delightful to read.
I fell in love with astrology upon my first reading of Linda Goodmans sun signs, I fell in love with Lindas writing style also.

I think the Sun Sign stuff is not too far-off the mark.. in most cases (where there are no Sun/Moon/AC squares and opps) - but only if it is done properly, with forethought and research like Linda Goodman did. A lot of Sun Sign interps online/in magz/in newspapers are written in a very standardized, 'same old', non-meaningful manner. They miss my g-spot.

Very useful and accurate. I use it to help my friends with their love life all the time, and to help people understand themselves better too.

I don't think sun sign is most important when looking at a natal. Personally I'm quite heavy in libra and I can relate to that more. Moon is to do with emotions right? So shouldn't that suggest more about what kind of person you are? Also venus as well.

Bc if somebody has a gem venus for example, it trumps all other placements and makes them flighty.
I think moon, venus, mercury and rising show more about one's personality.
