I think this may be true. I am a counselor. I was taught that nurture trumped nature. They gave lip service to nature, but it was only lip service, imo. However, I see that a stressed Jupiter SEEMS to equal a loss of empathy, a blunted empathy, a compromised empathy. Is that true

What kind of counselor are you? Like what type, trauma.. child.. ??
Interesting theory.. can you go more into this? I think its a choice though... people can LEARN to be empathetic..

i think there might actually be something to this

my jupiter is in a very stressed location...its in cancer opposed by saturn harshly...and sometimes my empathy can be a little stunted

edit: then again, neptune does conjunct my saturn too...

------------------
I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history

Nope. I have Jupiter square Saturn, and that isn't true for me.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. I have a Jupiter square and it's not true for me either.

Jupiter is linked to optimism, expansion, religion, philosophy, things like that...but it's not the planet responsible for empathy. Again, that's Neptune's domain. Think about it - when people talk about boundaries between people and the ability to know things about them without the use of words, the first planet they mention is Neptune. So it makes total sense that the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes and feel what they feel, is Neptunian/Piscean.

Now, is it possible a stressed Jupiter can lead to a lack of, or issues with optimism? Absolutely.

"Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
are the most intuitive of all the zodiac. They are so empathic that they often take on other's pain to the detriment of their own health"
http://www.nanceestar.com/astros2.html
http://astrology.about.com/od/transitsandaspects/a/Neptune-In-Pisces.htm

And there's tons of astrology texts that also link Neptune to empathy. Honestly, I hate to be a stickler about stuff but it's important that people get the fundamentals down correctly - especially if they're gonna read the charts of skeptics or people who don't know anything about astrology. Because when you don't know the correct info, you'll read charts incorrectly, and hurt the reputation of astrology further and frankly it really doesn't need anymore of that; the subject is already considered a joke by most of the free world, and when people don't take the time to learn facts and pass around inaccuracies like that, you just make things even worse.

I would also disagree with this assessment of Jupiter, but I could see "Blunted Empathy" as a misunderstanding of Jupiter's energy.

Jupiter is like a great uncle or godfather, who has no lasting responsibility for you, so is free to shower you with all sorts of experiences. Where you parents wouldn't let you stay out past 8pm on a school night, Jupiter will keep you out till 2am and get you drunk.

Jupiter cares about experiences and only focuses on the consequences which may hinder future experiences. Jupiter sees life as an exploratory event and believes everyone should have the freedom to participate. In this way, it's a good energy, because you learn how to become better at experiencing without obstruction (evolution, learning, and adaptation). In another way this is horrible, because Jupiter never has to deal with the consequences. He can take you out and get you drunk, but it's you and your parents who have to deal with the hangover and the punishment. When Jupiter comes back into town, you remember him fondly as the guy who took you out and got you drunk, while Saturn and Moon get the bad rap for restricting you while being hungover.

The stressed version of Jupiter could manifest as less oriented toward growth and betterment, and more reckless or negligent (avoiding heavier responsibilities like a job or family). I could see this being a major energy behind a dad who takes his 15 year old son out to get drunk and have sex with a hooker, cause he thinks he is teaching his son about life. Or a woman who gambles her child support money away because she believes she can win big and support her family. In actuality both situations are watering negative seeds which are likely to grow into larger issues.

In that range I could see Jupiter as trying to do something good without consideration of what is actually needed or "Blunted Empathy"

I think a stressed Jupiter leads to irresponsibility - inability to completely commit to something and sometimes going overboard - overdoing things. It could also mean not having very clear moral standards or rebelling against moral standards... and as Beligerent was saying - issues with 'optimism' or lack there of. One day they could be on a high and the next day depressed.

Jupiter (exalted) in Cancer here.

Best placement for nurturing, maybe not being nurtured, but we know how to love our loved ones well.

& i'd like to take a time out to hug my old friend Teasel now ((( )))

Mine is at 3 degrees, but Mercury is opposed Jupiter in my natal chart, so opposition to Jupiter is an energy I handle pretty well. Plus Pluto passed over my Sun in Sag a few years ago, and I'll tell you, once you live through one of those, Pluto aspecting other stuff kinda feels like, "Oh... this again... okay, assume the position".

This sounds like me right now: three days happy, last week, then mood sinking. I've had problems with depression since middle school, but I used to bounce back.

@ Xiiro,

Mine trines Chiron....may be a good thing? Helpful in certain ways..

But yes, if youre used to Plutonian energy anyway, the transits arent that bad.

Pluto has finally moved past squaring my moon for a number of years...not fun! Lucky i'm still alive at this point! Will be glad when it moves out of my 12th house.

Mine is sextile Chiron, I think it's a good thing. Regardless of how reckless Jupiter can be, he also has the ability to see the good in any situation and learn to rise above. I think Chiron benefits from that energy greatly. It gives us an ability to look at our pain and refuse to accept it as only a wound. We are fortunate to have an inherent desire to seek out the lesson beyond the scars.

agghh mine is sextile too! that's what i meant!

what was i talking about? Yeah, Chiron in Taurus, conjunct Merc. Sextile Jupiter.

I like your interp. Xiiro. I think the only thing that helps my prominent Chiron, is Jupiter.....lightens the load a bit. (thank god! )

Mintgirl, mine too! 6* Cancer

I was working as an energy healer while my Sun was conjoining Pluto, and discovered something that happened to one of my clients (who was also a Sag). She was a massage therapist and had shown up at one of her client's homes for their weekly appointment. He invited her in and asked her to set up while he got ready. As she was setting up, she stepped on a rug (which happened to be laid over a large hole) and fell into the basement. This was particularly weird, because homes in California are not built with basements. She completely messed up her hip and ended up spending the next several months hospitalized and enduring physical therapy.

When I found out what happened, I freaked out. I did not want to fall into any random holes so I was very careful to figure out what I needed to do to survive Pluto. Turns out, the answer isn't very hard. It was a two step process for me:

1.) Pay attention - Don't just stumble into every room like a stoopid floppy Sagittarian (hoofs and drool flailing everywhere).

2.) Accept what is placed before you - It's okay to hate it, you don't even have to pretend, but you do have to chew and swallow it.

I found I actually miss Pluto on my Sun. It left me with a strength that I can't explain. Also, most of the time I was faced with something I didn't want to accept, just the act of accepting it was enough and the problem would automatically just resolve.

I do remember those days though, looking through my ephemeris and highlighting the day Pluto left Sag. It felt like quite an accomplishment having survived the transit lol.
