Today 2 people were talking 'labels'
Oh where did you get that from?
She answered the question then went on to drop the designer name - she is a capricorn sun, pluto in scorp but I don't know much more about her.
Oh this, its a <insert label name here>
I as dayandnight here have deliberately left out the label name so as not to discriminate on designer labels !!!!!!!

My sister is the same ' oh it's a <insert designer label> and she is virgo influenced (earth sign = materialism?) as well as a sun conjunct pluto in libra and the interpretation of this sun conjunct pluto is wanting power over others. When my sister said it to me it was in a really condescending tone left open to interpretation. It was so condescending that
I guess this comment triggered a memory in me today.

So is materialism a power thing?
Is it also linked to earth signs?

I only have moon in virgo so need more earth so maybe I can learn from her.

I would readily admit that sounds like my wife and I. We have strong preferences for select brand labels and don't really care what anyone thinks. We work hard for our paycheck and therefore buy whatever we can afford. We're not shy about wearing labels.

Me: Capricorn Sun and Mars. Ascendant Pisces or Aries. North Cancer. Gemini Moon. Aquarius Venus.
Wife: Leo Sun and Mars. Ascendant Cancer. North Aries. Gemini Moon. Virgo Venus.

I'd say Cap/10th/Saturn with a Libra/Venus combo.

I have a 10th house Venus square Saturn and I like nice things. I care about labels, but only to a certain extent. Only if the label is truly impressive (like I'm not going to give a sh*t about Marc by Marc or DVF or Coach), but that's because I like fashion.

I also like things that don't have a well known label, as long as its cool looking. I shop at cheap stores all the time.

It annoys me when people brag about "designer" clothes that I don't care about lol. Like this one girl on my Facebook always brags about the MOST TYPICAL rich people crap: Ohhhh I'm going to the HAMPTONS~~~ and Look at these Tory Burch shoes~~~~ (which are actually Chloe rip offs) Look at this tiny-a*s Tiffany's bracelet~~~. It's like, NO ONE CARES. THOSE THINGS AREN'T IMPRESSIVE. Call me when you get some Maison Martin Margiela shoes, then I'll probably puke and cry.

Awareness regarding designer labels for me has only come with time and influences.Thinking on this has changed over the years. I got the impression that if you have a designer handbag people want to know and if you don't they may not want to know used to be what I picked up as black and white thinking. However there are grey areas and if you work hard you deserve to treat yourself as long as it doesn't go to extremes is my motto. My sister does not go to extremes but she is materialistic, however she does work extremely hard too. Respect to all for all she has achieved.

Anyone that brags about what labels they have are insecure and overcompensating.

I grew up around a lot of girls like that. What I didn't get is I had the exact same things they did, so I never got why they have to literally prance what they had in people's face, literally? I knew a Gemini sun girl that did this all the time. Overcompensating. That's the psychological aspect of it.

I am materialistic but I don't like showing what I have off to people. I get terribly embarrassed when people put me on the spot about it. But I think you'd have to look at Caprircorn and Taurus?

Hahahahaha!! Tory burch, just awful never got the hype. And Tiffanys too? Overused/done. I dont know, I think receiving a Tiffanys gift would be more annoying then not getting a gift at all LOL!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm a variety freak.

I feel like it's my Gemini rising(variety lover/experiMENTAL lol) and my Aqua Mars for being this way. (loving to be unpredictable)

but I usually do prefer quality whether it is cheap or expensive or somewhere in between.(Cancer Jupiter and Taurus Mercury)
Like sometimes I'll see a basic shirt but then I'll feel it and go 'eww...not worth it I can find this style ANYWHERE else (whether it's cheaper, expensive, somewhere in between)' Cause when clothes feel good, I'm more likely to feel good and be in a better mood. Ya know.
But if I see something I'm in love with, and I know I'm not likely to find anything like it elsewhere and it's not that comfy I will sacrifice that, cause the unique style is so worth it. lol

I feel like life is too short/long(idk!) to shop the usual typical places.

I have a grudge against Old Navy cause I bought a tank top there I barely had the tank top for a month and a hole formed in the boob area. I haven't shopped there in 5 years. (Scorpio Moon/Pluto lmao) That was around the time I started to buy my own clothes. And there commercials are so ANNOYING. haha

My ex-boyfriend (Leo/Scorpio/Virgo) lived a few minutes away from Hickory Hill. He went to Langley High and then UVA (a "public Ivy" - sheesh) and his mother was a personal friend of some of the Kennedys. His father wrote several political books and his father's family came from money. He drove an "okay" car (not the latest year Nissan Maxima), lived in a townhouse with two other guys (they were all in their early 20s, all in the same social strata) and he had a favorite shirt that he wore all of the time, even after he got a hole in it from moving boxes into the townhouse.

A friend of my grandmother's (the friend is a Gemini, not sure about the other placements) comes from a family with "real estate wealth" and is the wife of a research scientist who also came from family money. She rarely dresses up (she is a "horse lady", that is how my grandmother met her) and every time I've seen her she has worn those duck boots, you know, those ones that you get from LL Bean. She drives a pick-up druck when she isn't riding a horse or a bike.

I went to junior high and high school with some of the kids of the "nouveau riche" who lived in McMansions. They would constantly talk about "Ralph Lauren"-this and "Tiffany"-that.

My cousin (Aries/Aries/Sag), she is all about labels and has always tried to hang out with a clique that was way "out of her league" (which wouldn't be a big deal if she didn't try so hard - working two jobs in high school - to be one of them). She has Venus and Mars in Taurus. I am thinking that Taurus plays a role in this (2nd house - hmm, her 2nd is intercepted, material things, self-worth).

My most recent ex (Leo/Taurus/Virgo) always talked about "Armani"-this and "Rolex"-that. He lives in a McMansion in NJ and rubs elbows with some of the husbands of the "Real Housewives of NJ" (ROFL - I can't believe I dated this guy!). He owns a contracting company and a couple of smaller businesses that are doing quite poorly thanks to the economic turndown. He has already lost one McMansion and was on the verge of losing another. But still, labels, labels, labels.

What is my point? To the people with real money, real family money, labels don't matter. Looking good effortlessly does and so does quality, but talking about it is a no-no. A Leo, especially one with a Libra Moon, notices stuff like this (natural class and elegance vs. pretension). I think this is where my Aquarius rising comes in as well because in all cases, I am not impressed.

All I know is: "An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure"...

I think my materialism is somewhere in between.

four years ago I felt like I was in a rut always shopping at Khols, Target, American Eagle, Forever 21...why should they be the only clothes places that define who I am?(lol you could say I was having a teenage identity crisis I guess) I had my own car and own money and I have a checklist of all the places I want to shop. I stick to budget though. I still do it to this day.

Here are all the places I have shopped at this year for clothes make up and hair stuff.
American Eagle (damn their clothes are so soft!)
Khols
Ulta
Bebe
Macys
CVS
Target(twice)
Hottopic
TjMax(twice)

I give my self a budget every month, I feel stale if I do not do this.

and here are some places I plan on shopping but haven't yet (or haven't in a while)

Rite Aid
Sears(never buying slacks there again a bought a ton there a year ago and they are pet hair magnets)
Meijers
Forever 21
Juicy Couture

(I know I must sound a bit bat sh!tz crazy, but it's fun and it makes me feel awesome)

I must say I have always found the Coach Bags, Luis Viton bags to be fugly and pointless. Oh wow look at my purse with C's allover it! I have no C's anywhere in my name too! Whether its a fake one or a real one, I don't see the point of it. That's just me.

My sister and our best friend has coach bags, but I still love them anyway. lol

And the kids in middle school and high school wearing shirts that just say Ambercrombie, Aeropostle, American Eagle. To me that was like 'hey guys remember I'm better than you cause I shop HERE' or 'hay I shop HERE so I am not a lame loser nerd...and you have to talk to me now popular kids'
but I don't mind the Moose symbol thing that Ambercrombie does.(do they even still do that) I don't really shop there...I don't think I ever had. I did shop at Fitch once...and I didn't feel superior, I felt stupid like I was trying to be cool. lol
I like the Channel symbol too for some reason.

Okay I bet I will get sh!t for this one. Yes Victoria's Secret is good. But the whole Pink logo thing I find to be stupid. Like dark Purple sweat pants with the logo Pink on the butt that is not the color Pink. Even if it was the color pink... Am I the only one who finds this stupid? Why does that make someone cool/hot? Oh...I think I get it Pink...cause it's a bra and UNDERWEAR store and you can buy things to cover your pink? (skanky) Or is it the whole 'hey boys it says pink on my ass...you know you want to. hey we all know pink is a Vitorias secret thing and that means I'm sexy'

Whoever I offended I'm sorry, I'm opinionated today.
I have friends who I love, who dresses like that, it's just not for me...because I get wired thoughts like that.

if it makes you feel better you can make fun of me cause I have two black shirts that say Bebe on them. For some reason I don't feel stupid wearing them...though I probably should. haha

With my Cap sun & Taurus moon you might think I would be materialistic, but the truth is I am far from it..

'Stuff' is just stuff to me.

my town and high school is pretty blue collar...so kids didn't get made fun of for not having "the brands"...pretty much shopping anywhere that wasn't a department store made you cooler.

you know it's funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-WzqfbVHU

It was like Ambercrombie, American Eagle, Areopostle made you a superior. But it's like common I know where you live...we all know that you waitress and spend all of your money on those clothes. And I'm richer than you, and I don't dress and act this way. I was a total outcast a portion of high school. Only a small handful of kids did this at my school. Once of them is my childhood ex bestie that lives next door.

And if you shop at Hottopic or Pacsun your a badass or edgy or dark.

It must suck to live in a more rich people area where people actually have the audacity to tell you your lame for not wearing the "it brands"
My friend that went to a different school got talked down on because she wore sketchers.

My mom grew up in a sorta wealthy area. But she was a family of 6 with only her dad providing...so yuh she couldn't be snooty. She got sick of the people at her school, rebelled and hung out with trailer park people and partied with them and stuff. (got her partying out of her system early)
Now she is a physical therapist and she loves her Wallmart, and her cheap clothes. She loves dress barn too that is splurging for her. And if that makes her happy then cool, but it was a pain in the ass when I depended on her for clothes. lol (ps I also like Wallmart and dress barn and my mom keeps stealing the sweater I bought at dressbarn and I'm like hey that's mine!)

I don't buy anything to impress anybody. I buy whatever I want to please myself only, and could care less what anyone thinks of what I have. I am partial to select brand names, but I won't go into those online. Many items are expensive, but well worth it in my eyes. I gladly pay for quality that I can trust and items which bring me personal satisfaction. My self worth doesn't come from what I own, so those who think I'm insecure don't know me.

Stuff in Capricorn. Every Cappy I have ever encountered has a thing about possessions - it's like it's never enough and they always have to have something more expensive and flashier. In general they care ALOT about appearances and what people on the outside, think, both of themselves, the people around them, and the things they own...

Geez, Some people just like fashion (!)
How on earth does that mean they are materialistic? They just appreciate a higher standard of living and are very visual (sensual) people.
