Do you find that your rising sign reflects the behavior your family expected of you?

E.g. I have Virgo rising and am the family secretary. Sister #1 is Leo rising and expects the royal treatment. Sister #2 is Sagittarius rising & can do whatever the flip she wants - complete freedom with parents' generosity thrown in. My dad has Cap rising and was expected to support all his siblings.

Unfortunately no =(
I'm an aries rising, so you'd think I'll lead, but my parents are scorpios and I'm pretty much their puppet.

Err... no... Pisces rising. I have no idea how that would fit into the family role. Honestly, my wife would never have married me if I truly were to behave like a Pisces rising. That's exactly what she can't stand in a man.

I'm more like somewhere between a Capricorn rising and an Aries rising. So I don't see how my Ascendant horoscope makes any sense.

I read somewhere that the rising sign and the planets conjunct the Ascendant signify (amongst other things) how we learned to resolve conflict in our childhood.
I identify more with this description, having been the peace maker when I was a child. I have grown now into all my Aries planets in the 7th and they overpower the Ascendant when dealing with family members.

Maybe you had to be more Aries-like (direct) to deal with the subterfuge. Or maybe an only child.

It sounded to me like your father expected you to submit (Pisces) to him. According to Linda Goodman in "Sun Signs," Pisces placements get overridden by stronger signs in the chart because it absorbs.

Well, FWIW, I have Sun Square Ascendant

Sun square Ascendant

People born with Sun square Ascendant do not always "come across" to others as they intend to. Especially in their youth, these people can easily offend others with what people might call an "attitude". Sometimes, the impression is one of being overbearing, arrogant, or pushy. If this is the case, it's due to a defense mechanism perhaps stemming from childhood. For some reason or other, what these people want to express is often interpreted the wrong way. Awareness of this discrepancy is important, otherwise the defense mechanism can worsen over time, and natives of this aspect can meet with problems at work (especially with authority) and in personal relationships. Softening the manner and the attitude does wonders to smooth over relationships of all kinds.

Yes, he still wants me to submit to him.

Except that he is up against the almighty middle finger.

Heh, hooray for the Cap Sun shining thru

Yeah, my family seems to need me to take care of the boring details but it doesn't mean I'll be good at it or bother anymore.

That's what my sister #2 says about my parents. The way I see it, they're letting her decide on her own path in life and are trying to support and guide her.

Yup yup, sounds all too familiar. Pisces Sun totally overshadowed by Cap rising.

I'm a Libra rising stuck in the middle of two Scorpio (mom and brother) and one Leo (father) rising. I wouldn't say I have a specific role in the family, but I tend to be the only common ground between all of them... My parents rarely speak about my brother, who is far more dependent on them than I am. My family is disfunctional, like many families...

I am the messenger in the family, though... Now that I think about. My mom will call me to talk to my dad (and vice versa), and my brother never talks to my parents so I'm always chasing him down to send him messages. I'm the translator too because none of them can discuss anything with each other without getting into an argument or standoff. /sigh

Sounds like Cancer Moon is just causing needless doubt in those instances, they probably just see you as the sophisticated one.

I am the family weirdo, that's for sure (Aquarius rising). The good thing is that I have inspired a few people to change, especially my mother (Moon square Asc, Moon conjunct Pluto), even though we have had our differences over the years.

There are a lot of insecure perfectionists in my family. When they see that I take risks and even when I fail I still dust myself off, get back up and keep going instead of feeling embarrassed or giving up they feel like they can actually live too.

I'm kind of the black sheep. Sag ASC conj Uranus. I don't fit what either of my parents want me to be/do. They see me as flighty and without any direction in life. Very misunderstood, but that's okay because I'm gonna go do what I wanna do. My sister is a Libra rising and fits the more traditional idea that my parents wanted for their offspring.

I've read interpretations of my ascendant that actually said things along the lines of 'you are the black sheep or the oddball in your family'.

It's totally true. I'm pretty much known for being the 'strange' one of the bunch.

When I was a kid I and it came to disputes among us siblings, I was always the peacemaker or mediator, but I feel like that's due more to having my moon in Libra than anything else. I have three planets in the 7th as well so apparently I'm suited to it too, but the older I got, the less patience I had for that kinda thing.

Hooray for Cap? The whole giving the finger to authority thing is totally Uranian in nature. If anything, Cap IS the "Man" or the authority not the one doing the rebelling.

But, as I've said, when all else fails, I yell

And totally random, since the other topic was closed - there is such a section It's called Soul Unions and it is located here: http://www.linda-goodman.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Soul+Unions&number=10&DaysPrune=1000&LastLogin=

^Nice! Good 2 know. I thought it was a non-astrological section.

Hmm he does have Venus in Aquarius. Maybe the finger from them actually means love? I had a Venus in Aqua ex whose idea of proof of love was farting with each other. That killed off romantic feelings fast.

YTAlways, I'm just kidding btw...it was your 10th House Cap Sun saying, "I'm my own father now," or something to that tune.

He couldn't take me anyway. I was always my own father. The middle finger (figuratively) came up as early as my pre-teens (he would have slapped me silly if it were literal... where I came from physical punishment was not only condoned, it was lauded... you wouldn't believe my punishment stories from my mother as well.. in fact she was even more harsh).

He sent me far, far away. At 14 years old, I left home for good. About 6,800 miles or about 13.5 hours flight time.

Now I live 18 hours 45 minutes flight time or 9,700 miles away from him to prevent us from killing each other.

We send our snide remarks of affection via Facebook, Linked In and e-mail
