I think you're mixing the Mars retrograde of 2010 with the upcoming one in Virgo.

Also it effects everyone differently depending on their natals. Posting your natal will probably get more of a response. Look at where Virgo is in your chart, look at mutable signs, Mars, and where Aries is.

Natal Moon in Cancer, 4th House...Lunar transits shouldn't have a super significant impact on most, but they make a major impact on my moods. It definitely depends what house/natal planets of mine the moon is transiting through - but I can be lifted or just downright dogged. Or, maybe I'm just bi-polar. Haha - just kidding.

Has anyone else noticed this type of trend (dominant planets' transits having more of an impact) in their lives?

Mars in Virgo Rx in whatever house it's in in your chart means you'll be rehashing your activities, in a thoughtful, constructive manner. The thing to be aware of is a tendency to get too critical.

Transiting Mars in Virgo is conjunct my Natal North Node and Saturn -- it's life lesson time for me.

All work and no play...make Wild Places a dull girl...nope. Just more evolved.
