How dare our son make a fool of himself and degrade the good family name? Ruins our reputation, especially when he refers to homosexuality.

I swear if it had been a woman, my dad would have high five and brag to everyone.

Nobody believed me. I'm sure my dad still doesn't want to admit he was wrong.

What about your mom? Didn't she try to make things better for you then?

YoursTrulyAlways,

I'm very sorry for what happened to you.
My choice of words is not sufficient so I can only echo what other posters said, respect to you.

In my country, last year there were a lot of cases exposed, all of them were men who were abused by certain religious figures in the 50's. One of them revealed his traumatic experiences and hundreds more followed.
The sadness and misunderstanding they must have felt, their parents just ignored their children and continue to befriend those perpetrators! Now these perpetrators have retired and they claim that everybody who has retired after they abused those boys, should not be trailed anymore, they feel absolutely no remorse or shame. This is simply beyond my understanding! They killed a child's innocence and I really feel they should be trailed as murderers.

Like I said... lose face.

Familes with a good reputation to keep don't have the police come knocking on their doors. The son brings disgrace to the home.

They sent me to Woodbridge (Institute of Mental Health is the new name) to be evaluated!! A group of psychiatrists and psychologists evaluated me!! I was diagnosed as being a biligerent and rebellious kid!! 10 years old. Sexually rebellious!!

That's why as soon as I hit puberty, I began with sex for real. Messed up!!!

The victimized become the guilty.

Want to talk about messed up? Let's switch gears to my wife's family.

My wife was 8 years old when she was sexually molested (i.e., touched sexually without actual sex) by her own teenaged uncle (as in mother's brother). Her father and mother said nothing. Praise the Lord! The blamed their daughter.

The same teenager became 17 years old and proceeded to forcibly rape his 13 year old niece (as in his bigbrother's daughter), causing her to lose her virginity. The big brother came home and pointed a loaded shotgun at the a$$hole. Big brother was a federal DEA (drug enforcement) agent and he lived the dangerous life as a super cop daily).

Guess what? The family reported the big brother-father to the police but not the a$$hole teenager. So, in the end, a 13 year old female teen had sex and lost her virginity. Ho hum. IT WAS RAPE!! It wasn't consensual!!

And then, Praise the Lord!! This teenager went on to college and then Divinty School. And became an ordained church minister!!! Then was sent to Latin America.. (lu pirate, no he didn't go to Brasil) and guess what? Where he ministered to children....

Messed up? That's the height of messed up!!

YoursTrulyAlways, your life story reminds me of the book "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Scarry, but a rich story that would make people aware of how the human race can be destructive.

You should read if you have opportunity.

And you go and attack her, then make nice. You should let things slide sometimes. Just brush things off once in a while, you know?

Saying that one got raped because they were attractive is the height of offensive, though. It places blame on the victim and rape is inherently an act of brute power, not uncontrollable sexual desires. Obviously the OP meant no harm and RegardesPlatero recognized that, but it should be helpful for everyone else to realize etiquette when speaking to a victim of assault. It's all highly sensitive business, as it should be.

Actually, my intention was never to blame RegardesPlatero on being raped. I was just trying to bring the good side on the situation, but I just learned that there wasn't a good side on this one. My group of friends talks about it all the time since is common in Brazil, but since none of us was raped we don't understand 1% of the pain of it.

We here get complimented by strangers all the time, and we are like it, that's why I thoughy I had the right of saying that...

And understanding the etiquette of every spot on the word is impossible, probably only God knows it. I'm never going to know it all an you also will never know it all.

Just to make sure, I'm really not mad at you, RegardesPlatero!! When someone says something about a hard situation that I've passed trying to see the good spot I also get a little mad! I understand you.

Also, thanks, RunAroundScreaming

enchantress299, amazing reply! That's exacly how I feel. Just wondering, where is yor mars?

Thank you.

My Mars is in Leo in the 9th house, figuring into a grand trine with my Jupiter/Uranus conjunction (Sagittarius- 1st house) and Aries Moon (5th house). My views on sex (and everything else) tend to be expansive, balanced and straight forward.

Don't worry, I knew you weren't meaning it in an insensitive or malicious way. It was quite obvious you were trying to lighten the mood and be light hearted. =) No harm in that.
