Do you have an Unaspected planet in your chart?

There seem to be two theories about how Unaspected Planets manifest.

1) The first theory is that, because the planet forms no major aspects to any other planets in the chart, it is free to operate in its purest form without hindrance. This would add extra power to the planet and perhaps make it the focal point of the native's chart, leaving all other planets to operate around the Unaspected planet's influence. In this case, the native would feel the planet's energy very potently and perhaps identify very strongly with the sign that planet rules mores than their own.

2) The second theory is that, because the planet forms no aspects to any other planets in the chart, it has no motivation or desire to express itself. Essentially, all other planets in the chart must compensate for the lack of influence the Unaspected planet has in the native's life. The native would tend not to resonate with cookbook descriptions of their Unaspected placings and this perhaps makes for an insecurity in this area of life. This would render this planet very weak in the chart of the native.

Quite conflicting theories, wouldn't you say? How does your Unaspected planet manifest in your life?

Personally, I resonate with the first theory. In my chart, the Sun is Unaspected. I never had a relationship with my father (Sun), though he got on extremely well with my brother whose Sun is heavily aspected. I've always been very extroverted and social, bossy and strong-willed, extremely self-aware and ambitious. I resonate very much with Leo energy and Leo folk! I am also often mistaken for a Leo by those well-versed in Astrology. There are times when I can dominate the immediate environment, attaining all attention possible. It's definitely a compulsive action. As a child I loved being on-stage and naturally gravitated toward performing arts. I've also always had to be THE best in anything and everything I undertake. I'm constantly told I have a strong personality, but for the longest time, couldn't see this in myself. It's only now that I'm into Astrology that I realize how much the Sun influences me. I "come on strong", but I also constantly find myself in leadership positions. All sounds very Solar to me! I always asked astrologers why I felt so much like a Leo... and they'd all attribute it to the fact that Sagittarius (my Sun sign) and Leo are very similar... none ever bothered to explain my Unaspected Sun!

It certainly depends on the orb, if I can consider some of my planets unaspected or not.

Moon does not have any major aspects, though it is exactly quinkunx Saturn

Sun and Mercury have a conjunction to each other by under one degree. Some would count the sextile to Uranus by 6 degrees, some do not. It would be an out of sign sextile, too.
If it doesn`t count, Sun, Mercury and Uranus are also unaspected.

I have an unaspected Mercury. I think I do, anyway. It only makes aspects between 7-10 degrees, which they list on my chart but I feel may be too wide to count. Mercurian themes are very present in my life: I love writing, talking, communicating. I'm trilingual, studying to be a translator (my dream). At the same time, I do find it a struggle to communicate effectively every so often. Sometimes it is the easiest thing in the world, sometimes I feel like I'm in another world and just can't find the words to describe what I am thinking.

My Mercury is in Scorpio, the 9th house, and it trines my moon by 7 degrees, conjuncts the MC by 8 degrees, and squares my ascendant by 9 degrees. Are these orbs too wide? Is my Mercury unaspected?

@sand: I have known Unaspected Uranus folk myself, and have noticed that it only really plays out in the area of life pertaining to the house that Uranus is found in. For example, my stepmother has an Unaspected Uranus in Scorpio in the 4th House, so it's only at home that she experiences extreme mood swings, despises the "traditional" role of "mother", and is completely unpredictable and plain out weird. The outside world would never know this, however, because it's only at home that this shows. Where is your Uranus?

@Ceridwen: I don't take soft aspects (i.e.: quincunx) into account when deciphering whether a planet is Unaspected or not. I would say your Moon is definitely Unaspected. I can't say the same for your Sun/Mercury, because they are obviously conjunct one another. Unaspected Moon tends to have mother issues -- whether it's an obsession with the mother or issues surrounding her not being present in the child's life as she should have been. It makes the native extremely nurturing and impressionable, though he/she may not see this themself.

@RedScorp: My point exactly! When I read about "Sun in Leo" or "Mercury in Leo", they describe to the T! Question--where did you see my chart? Did I post it?

@inthemisosoup: I would render your Mercury Unaspected. The "wavering" nature of your Mercury definitely attests to this. Unaspected planets tend to do this: express themselves extremely strongly and with conviction, then suddenly become insecure and very quiet. It's important to note, however, that it's during these "insecure" phases that the native actually unknowingly exhibit's the planets traits even stronger; it's only the native that doesn't take notice of it. So don't sweat those periods!

I have an unaspected Venus. I think one must learn the about the planet, inside and out, on a solitary journey, as an explorer of uncharted waters. However, if one persists, one has something of rare beauty and value.

It would be helpful to members to explain how you *feel* your venus expresses?
Do you feel it in house? does it swing from extremes of say, neglecting your appearances, to over doing hair, clothes, make up for example...

gemini venus is THE most flirtatious sign

Unconsciously, yes. You should see my purse, backpack, etc. But I'm not on the lookout for specific pens or pencils or anything. I'm not that neurotic.
