This may seem a rather basic question, but there's apparently roiling debate out there on the interwebs. Some think it's ONLY a major planet - and then there's debate about what's "major". Some think it only counts if it's by it's location on the chart (the handle of the bucket, etc.). Some include element, modality, and house type - and others vehemently exclude modality and/or house type. What's your opinion? IP: Logged |

My opinion is that it's any planet that is the only one in an element, mode, house type or if it's the only planet in one side of the chart. I've read arguments that it's only the personal planets because the outer planets move too slowly, but I have a Uranus singleton and there's no way it's not one. It's conjunct my ASC in Sag from the 12th -- only fire and only planet in a water house. It doesn't make too many tight aspects, but I definitely feel it filters all of my chart's energy through it. I also have a Jupiter singleton (only Air planet) if you don't count Chiron -- Jupiter sextile Uranus (chart ruler and mutual reception) so even if its not a singleton, it works with Uranus in my chart.IP: Logged |

I know it can get really complicated. In the final analysis...what do you want it to be?I have a singleton Capricorn sun, it's my only earth sign. Only planet in an earth house (I've got Capricorn on the 6th house cusp). With Leo rising, I think that sun is also my chart ruler. But I have a splash chart, an air/fire grand sextile and a bunch of yods, so it's hard for me to figure out what the heck is going on. I just know that my sun doesn't get too much "help" from other planets. And I wonder if that's related to the fact that I don't get too much help from other people in my life. Nor do I seek it, much. SaggiMC - That info's definitely useful My main question's about the disagreement that seems to be floating around the ethers about it, though.I'd always assumed pretty much what your links describe...but there are like multiple-page long debates about it :/ Fondue & Faith - Yes. What you've both said makes sense. My 12th House nPluto's in Libra (my only cardinal placement), and it sure feels like a singleton. Imma go with it IP: Logged | |
