The Ascendant is the face we wear in to the world. Hence, what conjuncts this point in space is crucial. One wears it, as a coat. One’s coat may be an elegant fur , chic cashmere sweater, or a ratty jean jacket .When we add asteroids, we have a plethora of possibilities. If Eros conjuncts the ASC, the native is very attractive. If Vesta conjuncts ths ASC, one is devoted to helping others, selflessly.If Saturn conjuncts the ASC, one appears serious. One may have severe self doubt, as to one’s ability to make it in life.If Jupiter conjuncts the ASC, one will be jovial and may have weight problems. If Neptune conjuncts the ASC, one may appear mysterious and may not have enough sense of one’s identity. If Mars conj the Asc, one may be aggressive. If the Moon conjuncts the ASC, one may wear one’s heart on one’ s sleeve. If Uranus conjuncts the ASC, one may like to dress in a “look at me” way.One may want one’s appearance to reflect extreme individualism. If the Sun, one will have self confidence, If Nessus, one may abuse. If Dejaneria, one may be abused. If Sedna, one may be betrayed. If Cupido, one may use his eroticism to seduce, but will not have his heart involved. If Juno, one will be a loyal friend. If Vesta, one will be wise. If Eris, one will be annoying. If Pholus, one may have tantrums. If Kaali, one may absorb others energy, as a psychic sponge. If Lilith, one will radiate raw sexuality. If Pluto, one will radiate power. If Venus, one will radiate grace and beauty.if Ceres, one will nurture friends and family.

If one is discussing self doubt, look to Saturn, first off. Retro Saturn is harder than direct Saturn. A Retro Planet is a planet turned inward. It is different than a 12th house planet, which is a planet turned to the next dimension of mysticism,spirituality and creativity. A Retro planet goes in a loop, in a kind of obsessive way. A Retro planet must go deeper and deeper into itself until it really understands the nature of the planet. Then, it has a depth in the area of the planet. Then, it can “do” the planet . Saturn Retro is one of the harder Retro planets, although Venus is the hardest, in my opinion. Retro Saturn gives the native a deep seated and persistent insecurity. The nature of Saturn involves an inner brooding, anyway. Retro Saturn exacerbates this. Retro Saturn makes for a great deal of self doubt. The self doubt would be manifested WHERE Saturn is located. If Saturn is conjunct the ASC,one feels insecure about one’s place in the world; ones identity in the world. This differs from Saturn conjunct the Sun which would go deeper as the Sun is a more personal place than the ASC. Saturn conjunct the Sun may be the hardest Saturn placement. If Saturn conjuncts the moon, one doubts one’s emotions. Making connections with others is hard. Saturn conjunct Venus may make one doubt his ability to love and be loved. Saturn conjunct Mars may make one doubt one’s ability to meet one’s goals To elaborate on this. Saturn can make the house and sign difficult, as well. I did an article on Saturn in the houses and one on Saturn in the signs. I find Saturn makes people insecure by house and by sign, as well.

Saturn cools what it touches. Saturn restricts what it touches, both by house and sign. Scorpio energy is that of base passions. Scorpio is a roaming tiger, proud, majestic and most especially, primal. One may be intellectual. One may be empathetic. However, if one is not primal, one will be driving with blinders. One will go off of the side of the road, as it is a road hazard to the functionality of life. Astrology is about balance. Life is about balance. That is, if you want to live it well.

My Saturn IS retrograde. I used to be painfully shy to the point where it was just torture to be around people. And for a while, I never expected good out of life.

I'm learning to.

I do have to be careful not to look too serious. Although I think having a Leo ASC helps, even if it is conjunct Saturn. There's a lot of sun-Saturn interaction in my chart (I'm a Cap sun), but thankfully, Saturn does not conjunct any of my other planets.

Saturn's at 0 degrees Leo, retrograde.

So sweet of you to write this for me. I wish I were really good at astrology so I could write something for you in return!
