Just a question to get some opinions from others who look at synastry charts often. I have come to understand the preferred orb in synastry is 3 degrees. I faithfully use that, but have come to wonder recently, since my bf and I are approaching our 1 year anniversary - is there ever a time when the orbs should be increased to show a more fuller dynamic in the relationship? For example, we have Venus conjunct Mars at 6 degrees; maybe that wasn't felt initially, but with the passage of time it is and now it would make sense to look at aspects with a wider range? Make any sense?IP: Logged |

Hmm, good point! I made a post a while back about how people always stick to 3 degrees in synastry. I've been with my SO for about 9 months now and as our relationship progressed, I felt our venus conjunct saturn DW. One is at 4 deg and the other at 6, but it is definitely felt for sure. I'd like to see what others have to say to this though. Because whenever I posted my synastry to ask about our aspects, most would ignore anything more than 3 and only focused on those less than 3. I guess less than 3 is most apparently in the beginning and will still remain apparent. As time flows and you get to know each other more, you get to feel other aspects too, but I guess it'll come with time.

Hahaha. I'm 20 years into it and they won't allow me more than 3 degrees. I get the sense that Synastry becomes less meaningful over time and composite becomes more important, but what do I know? IP: Logged |

I think it depends on the planet, but I would count anything under 5 degrees. Sometimes 6ish degree ones can be felt (but it'll be more a background buzzing than sth in your face like it would be if it was conjunct less than a degree for example).Usually for me, I count up to 6 degrees for conjunction, 4 for trine and sextile and 4 for opposition. Squares can be felt within 5 imo. IP: Logged |

No. The orb doesn`t change, just because time is passing (I prefer tight orbs as well, and aspects under 3 degrees will be most strongly felt, but I also take anything into consideration which is under 5 degrees).Another thing that happens though, is that aspects are strengthened, fading or new ones forming through progressed synastry. Paul Westran did an amazing study on this. I definitely recommend reading his book "When Stars collide" or his website positiveastrology IP: Logged |

Okay tell you what, here's my take.If your luminaries are in a tight aspect, your basic core energies are then automatically connected. My theory is in such a case where there are DW Sun-Moon contacts then conjunctions and oppositions between other planets can be felt even with an orb of 10. This from strictly personal experience. I think it makes sense. You start to notice the less obvious energies.IP: Logged |

no i wouldn't. But what you can so is look at both your progressions including Angles and see what touching or aspecting as these are very important.... ------------------ I love the parable, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, BUT if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for life.” IP: Logged |
