Ok, let me think. I suppose one could compare Venus Retro with Mercury Retro, of which I am familiar.

Mercury Retro makes the mind go whacky. It makes communication go whacky. So, does Venus Retro make love with others (relationships) and our own love nature, go wacky?

I think it may. I feel a sense of the loves in my life being reevaluated. I have been having much angst about calling my mother whom I have not spoken to in 7 months. I am trying to figure out that "love".

I feel the love for those I love and the lack of love for those I don't.

I have been feeling something profound happening and I can see how it might be Venus Retro.

Merc Retro makes you go deeply into your mind, in order to learn. However, this depth produces a special relationship with learning. I really like Merc Retro, natally.

I really am glad I have it, even though people say it is not a favorable thing. To me, it feels like it is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Maybe, that is because my mercury is in Gemini so is in it's home.

Anyway, any thoughts on Merc Retro with respect to Venus Retro?

I read in vedic astrology that all natally retrograde planet afflictions end or at least subside by the age or 30-35. Does it apply to western methods?

I hope that's the case.
I know someone who I was invoved with that had venus retrograde. He seemed not to be satisfied with anything in his life and he could never make up his mind as to what he truly wanted. I guess it was a very fickle aspect, but considering that these are the cards they have to work with; I kinda felt sorry for him.

Nope, does not apply. I have my sister with this placement in Natal and I can tell, Venus RX natally or transit is even worse than Saturn or any other hard or karmic planet. Many years I have complained about my Venus direct at 29 degrees until I saw my sister RX Venus. Then I finally understood the real difference and its effects between these two. Venus RX is bad. Venus who is love from the heart in RX acts like Mercury making love appear like love from the mind. Controlled, cold, not showing any vulnerability and moreover not showing much love, not to say at all. When Venus is damaged, expression of love is also damaged.

If you're talking about transit, then you need to look up which part of your chart and which planets are aspected by the transit. Venus retro was squaring my sun, and boy I was being very indulgent with foods. It's going sextile my jupiter, and money due to me seems to be coming. When it squares my Mars, I expect sparks to fly, but not in a good way.

Oct 8 - Nov 18 2010 in Scorpio.

Broke off a 9 year relationship in the middle of that. It was a long time coming and ending up being mutual. Still really good friends.

The transit seems to make one evaluate the relationships in their lives, at least from personal experience.

@ rosalind: That gives a very fatalistic view to all this if there is no respite.
I would hope that someone with an afflicted chart has the chance to become aware and at least be able to if he/she should choose, to change.

I think in vedic astology, it is also said that will power and mental state have a lot do to with transits aka dasha etc. Even if your chart seems pathetic a lot of awareness, self discipline, and will power can prevent you from the harsh aspects. Yes, our mentality and bodies are naturally molded by our natal chart, and there are certain innate traits. Yet, that does not mean one can't move past that and adopt better traits. Even if our natural inclination is set by the charts, vedic astrology believes that you can change it. So no worries. : )

Oh and, is the venus retrograde now? When did it start and for how long?

Wow Lonake I have Merc at 21 Gemini, the Sun at 28 and Venus at 8. I can feel this huge kind of melting of my ego but it it is really good. It just hurts really, really badly
