The SN gets a bad rap by Astrologers who believe in reincarnation, in my humble opinion. They seem to dispense with the SN as some kind of force which seeks to hold one back, or imprison one, in the past. I beg to differ. One needs to embrace that with which one is comfortable. One needs the old with which to reach for the new, the North Node. One must use all one’s talents and areas of ease, as one strives to reach goals, which are slightly out of one’s reach. The NN is, usually, more than slightly out of one’s reach, as it is aspirational. It is like a 2 karat canary diamond. I had a friend who had one. It was so big as to appear fake. My thought was about how the diamond was aspirational for all diamond lovers, but few would attain it. The NN is a beacon, calling one forward. The NN will, always, call one forward. The NN is present in our fears. The sign and house of the NN will be that to which we aspire. The sign and house on the SN is that to which we have attained: that which we use with ease. I wanted to write this, as I feel Astrologers who dismiss the SN as antiquated, are missing a gem in the person’s natal chart. This is my opinion of the situation, anyway.

maybe you feel so comfortable with your SN becuse you have very personal planets conjuncting it (sun and mercury if im not mistaken) but i on the other hand really want to reach my NN (sun conj NN) and find my SN to be really annoying preventing me from being the person i want to be

DL YES I have Gemini Sun at 28 Gem. SN is 26 Gem. mercury is 21 Gem. These are all in the 9th House. I realize that this house and this sign is my comfort zone, which I appreciate and can use.

That was my point in writing this, but you are right, DL. I have many planets in the 9th in Gemini.

Venus is in Gemini in the 9th House, too. I think my Cancer moon is, too LOL

well yes i know what you mean

but my point is that many astrologers see the SN as a point one should leave in order to develop and having so many planets on the SN might make the SN "comfort zone" to comfortable to leave becuse the NN is a completly new territory (especialy if no planets conjunct it) and sometimes (with many oppositions to it like you have) it is against your personality and inner feelings making the transition to the NN harder

yet your condition is very confusing because your strong gemini planets (sun+chart ruler+mercury) makes you familiar with the energy of the 3rd house while their opposition the SN makes it foreign to you

need some time think about this :P

It is not so much that one has to leave the SN, but one should not get "stuck" there, because it is one`s comfort zone.

As I see it, the SN and its ruler provides the traits/ tools which we can use to get to the NN and its ruler.

My SN is in Gemini in 7th house and its ruler is in Sagittarius in 1st house exactly conjunct Sun.

My NN is in Sag conjunct Neptune, Mars and ASC and its ruler Jupiter in Pisces in 3rd house squaring NN/Neptune/ASC/Mars (it also trines Saturn, sextiles Venus and quinkunx Pluto).

Understanding of the Nodes is relatively recent in Western Astrology. I believe that Vedic astrology who has been studying the Nodes for much longer views the SN differently. Ketu as they call i,t is supposed to be where our self-realization is, whereas NN, as Rahu is where our materialistic desires are. In the West, we tend to value materialism more, so it is not surprising that our astrology tends to perceive the NN as the "better" node.
http://www.johnhayes.biz/Articles/ArticlesVedic.htm

quote:
Rahu represents that karma which causes our worldly desires - externalising energies which push us forward or even cause us to overextend ourselves. It is only natural that if Rahu indicates worldly desires, it is capable of giving power, fame, political success, money, and beauty (when beneficially placed). This is the real reason that you will sometimes read, especially in books by western astrologers that the North Node indicates our future direction in this life. However it should not be forgotten that the desires of Rahu, like most desires, are insatiable, and therefor happiness or satisfaction may not necessarily result from the attainment of these benefits.

Ketu indicates difficult personal karma such as long term addictions and compulsions. It represents karma that is much more deep-seated, introverted and internalised - karmas that are less open and outgoing than the ambition and desire represented by Rahu.

In its positive side Ketu shows karmic accomplishment -those skills and abilities which we have perfected in previous lives which we bring into this life fully developed. For this reason those souls who are born with great abilities - natural psychics, healers, those with musical or mathematical skills etc. - will have a prominent South Node (Ketu). Many old souls have a very strong Ketu.

Good point about getting stuck in a comfort zone, Ceri!

Well said! I agree with you, SN is treated too harshly at times... it is simply where we are coming from, showing us the talents we mastered with ease in this life or our past lives. It's what comes easiest to us, but this means we just shouldn't depend on it TOO much, it doesn't mean it's bad. NN tells us that we can achieve so much more beyond what we have mastered already, where and how. I personally connect a lot with my SN, H5 in Taurus. The arts, crafts, painting, and self-expression comes very naturally to me. But NN in Scorpio sandwiched between Venus & Jupiter in the 11th shows me that if I want to expand even FURTHER than this, I need to work with other people too.

I respect my SN. Without it, I wouldn't have probably been able to head to the NN. Since self-creativity and mastering that must come before having confidence to share it with other human beings.

Belage- I like the Vedic interpretation of the NN/SN that you posted. It actually makes a lot more sense to me than some of the traditional western NN/SN stuff.

Interesting, Ami. Do you study things with a karmic perspective, or dismiss it outright? Theoretically, SNode-Sun indicates that you failed to achieve what you were meant to do in your most recent life, and this is another shot at that.

Does that resonate with you at all?

I like this website because it combines the SN with the NN.. You definitely need the SN lessons to help you in your path to the NN.

few would attain it.

I think most people attain it before they die. I find this surprising.. but they do. If you research this you'll see what I mean. Something always happens.. sometimes it is not long before death - It is usually an event that seems like the achievement of the NN goals.
It's so interesting.

I love the book The Secret Language of Destiny by Gary Goldschneider.

He breaks down the zodiac into 48 signs (and a corresponding 48 nodal axises.) He gives a reading for every sun sign on every nodal axis. It's all synthesized there, by a bona fide genius. And in the U.S., you can sometimes find it in regular bookstores, just to look through!

No I don't profit from these sales pitches at all. I just that book.
