Im reading an astrology book for newbies and it said, as an example, that if someone had Jupiter in 1st house, they may have a tendency toward weightgain. Because Jupiter is the planet of expansion and 1st house is related to appearance. Now, my 1st house is in Pluto. Most definate thing i found about Pluto is.... change. Now changing my appearance. Im actually really good at that. Using makup and clothes, i can look almost like a whole nother person. When i take pics, there are nearly none in which i look the same. But what i want to know is, am i going in the right direction with the pluto/changing/appearence angle? Give me your thoughts here? Thanks!!

Hi Gem-gurl, I always think of Pluto conjunct the Ascendant as stubborn and in control (at least in their own lives)
They are set in their opinions and and only they can change them. Your Gemini Sun probably has a lot to do with your versatility

I have Pluto in the 1st house..

I have a Libra asc and Pluto in Scorpio though.. soo it's not conjunct asc.

However, people do get strong reactions around/from me. My Libra asc hates that I rarely get neutral vibes from anyone. I wanna be liked. And most of the time because of my Libra ascendant people really like me.. but it's those times when I attract jealous and/or extreme people and situations.

My Libra does not like unpleasantness.

I was told to use it to my advantage. That I have a lot of power.. if I would realize. But that is a process in its own.

I have pluto conjunct AC and venus in libra....i've found it to be more of a constant transformation in my soul and who i am, i can be one way 10 years later i am going in a complete opposite direction...its an evolution, constantly...ive also found in my appearance people tell me i seem to age in reverse and seem happier as i go through these transformations...its like i get closer and closer to the true me!

I have experienced the 1st house Pluto curse tho....death in your 1st house affecting the way your seen...UGH!!
Many tragic deaths of public celebrities have had 1st house pluto and thats how it became known as the curse of the 1st house pluto...
I believe it also, i almost died at birth, then my son, also 1st house pluto nearly died at birth and it almost killed me giving birth to him, i did end up in a coma for a few days after going into shock from it all. My son has had 3 near death experiences...as a matter of fact i was told to start planning his funeral after an accident he was in, he had 3 skull fractures and lost half his blood volume at 8 months old...they said he lived only because his will to live was so strong! Very close calls!

Kurt Cobain is an example, pluto virgo in his virgo Ac...
Pluto on your AC...is having death very close to the way your seen, it isnt something to play with!
Altho many ppl with pluto 1st house like dangerous things, they feel invincible...but its pluto that invincible not us, unfortunately!

Pluto in 1st House

With Pluto in the First House opportunities for transforming or regenerating yourself may come through a personal need to understand the metaphysical processes associated with the mystery of life, death and rebirth - precipitated by periods of self-doubt and identity crisis (transits). During these periods you will experience powerful subconscious drives that are beyond your personal ability to control - these can act for good or bad depending upon other factors in your personality. Your drive for personal power is strong and if not controlled, may manifests in devious or underhanded ways. Others may view you as mysterious, secretive and something of a loner. Beware of forming associations with persons of a tough, mean, violent or low nature. Psychological health depends on a clear-cut philosophy for living a full and independent existence.

Pluto on the asc has a tendency towards weight. I don't remember where i read about it. Do remembet it being somewhat of an attempt to project strength andnpower through size.

i agree with your take on it. i have this placement too. i wear wigs almost every day and look drastically different day to day. i have often thought it is pluto/scorpio and change, but many people interpret it as change to the self and rebirth of sorts. my bf has pluto in the first also and for him i see the changes more on a personal/growth level, so i think it's both :-)

You are not "going" in any direction, it's the planet that takes you there
That being said, Pluto on asc gives a mysterious appearance and yes, a shapeshifter vibe. Physically, people with this position tend to favor (and look good in) black clothes, sunglasses, anything that conceals their appearance. Depending on the sign, it can be a very dramatic appearance or simply an understated one.

Personality wise, it manifests as constant rebirths, something happens and the person changes course 180 degrees, almost like a new person (the Phoenix, rising from its ashes). Of course, to rise from ones ashes, one has to burn first And the change Pluto is associated with is total annihilation, unlike Uranus and its erratic changes.

I only go by whole sign charts. Whoever said their rising is Libra but their Pluto is in Scorpio, I do not consider you to have Pluto in the 1st but in the 2nd. I think those who have Pluto in the 2nd tend to consciously handle Pluto's energy on a more tangible level. The 2nd house is the house of physical possessions, acquisitions and not surprisingly, self-worth.

My 1st house is LIbra with early Libra Asc conjunct Jupiter and Saturn with Pluto hanging out with them. All my heavy hitters are loaded up in my first house so I can tell you, my 1st house plays an extremely important in my life. I'd also like to add that Pluto trines my Venus exact so it's possible my assessment comes from my Venusian bias.

To answer your question, yes, Pluto does make the person change appearances, but only if the person wants to change and it's not as drastic or conscientious of a change as you would expect. If you want to explore more about the physical body, look at Mars. Pluto is energy subconscious and more difficult to wrangle because it is manifested below the surface. Understand that Pluto's energy is NOT like Mars energy that is felt like a sucker punch to the face. No, Pluto is more subtle, mesmerizing, tantalizing; if Pluto is felt, it's not through the physical, but through the senses and often times, intuition. Pluto's transformations are actually quite internal and being that Pluto is in the 1st house (in this case), the internal transformation must occur before it shows up on the external front.

I'll give you a shallow example of this. For many years, since I was a teenager, I've always admired women that looked good in red lipstick, like blood red, very vivid red lipstick. I've always called it "Aries red." I would go try it on at the counters in boutiques and high-end shops but it always looked gross on me and I would quickly wipe it off.
Red is a very powerful color. Red exudes confidence, sexiness, strength, courage. At the time, I wasn't able to wear that powerful color and look good in it because I didn't have a defined development of confidence, sexiness, strength, courage. About 3 years after my breakup with my ex (this was a year ago), I went with a friend to Sephora and tried on red lipstick just for the fun of it. To my surprise, I thought I looked stunning in red! All the women in the store came over to look at me and agreed I looked striking with red and some of them said they wished they could wear red but it's too strong of a color for them.
It wasn't like the red lipsticks I tried on were different colors, they were the same ones I tried on several years previous that looked awful on me.
What changed was really me- internally. I survived the breakup of a 7 yr relationship, I fought back at my job that had been corning me for 2 years, I had guys (I wouldn't call them men) try to pull the "I'm not available for relationship but want sex" trick with me, I've weathered being alone for the majority of the time, I've lost friends but made some new ones, I've maintained my happiness and optimism despite the recession- all those things have contributed to me growing in confidence, strength, and courage...and all those characteristics are seen as powerful and sexy. Because I transformed from within, and built up inner strength, my outer exterior shows it. The room does stop and look at me when I walk in wearing red and get nice stares from both males and females.

The trick about Pluto in the 1st is you have to be very careful about how you develop internally because it will shows up in the external. If you harbor bitterness, resentment, anger- all that will show up on the external shell and will not look so nice. I've known for quite some time, that people get strong reactions to me even if I don't look at them at all- either I "inspire" love or hate in others and it's beyond my control. Pluto is an instinctual aura... you will give off strong vibes even if you try not to. That's just how Pluto is.

I think Pluto in the 1st gives you vibes of being an authority or a leader as a policeman would need etc

Also, I'd like to add, about the comment of Jupiter conj Asc had a tendency towards weight gain. My opinion on that is that it's possible, but probably if it's only Jupiter in the 1st and no other planets. I've not seen a chart of Jupiter being a singleton in the 1st house so I cannot say if the person with 1st house Jupiter conj Asc tends to be heavier people. I've only met other Jupiter 1st house people with other planets in their 1st house and all of them are either skinny, slim, or slender.

I'm one of those above. i have Jupiter conj Asc but my Asc also conj Saturn and I'm slender-ish. I can say that Jupiter makes me "appear" like I'm a taller than I really am and perhaps Jupiter expanded my boobs but I actually have a tendancy to weight loss, not weight gain. If I go a day where I don't eat much, the next day, everyone will notice. If I'm stressed, I don't eat, I can easily starve myself without feeling any pain in my body. I have to be reminded to eat otherwise, I can go without eating and not care. But I suppose all that has more to do with Saturn than Jupiter, doesn't it? My point is, if there's other planets in with Jupiter, they might over ride Jupiter's tendency for weight gain and Jupiter could just be expressed through outlook and humor.

Hey, it's an old topic but I'd like to say for future readers I totally agree with pluto's more psychological, subtle (at first!) nature. I have pluto conj. asc. in scorpio, trine my personal pisces planets.

Although when I was younger I did love changing my clothing styles, haircolor, my handwriting, etc... it wasn't a day to day change, but something inspired by these "crises" I would go through at school and home. Strong scorpio/pluto/8th house all apply to this. Sun conj. pluto in Virgo mom was my nemesis in childhood - we constantly fought and there was this subconscious drive to be contrary to everything she said and stood for. She was the only one who could ever stand up to my intensity. I really was good at bringing out the worst in people. Simply through my presence, and with complete strangers!

I feel that Plutonian people have a duty to themselves and others through this great willpower. The total, "final" change to psyche that is required by the path of enlightement comes easier to us than anyone. Indeed, we act as catalysts for others (often strangers or brief relationships) to begin this change with themselves. They don't have the ability to be objective about their inner world until it comes out on display, in all it's ferocity. It's a powerful magnetic force - why we have lasting relationships only with fellow pluto people, both my family and scorpio hubby's have many people with strong pluto aspects also.

From my perspective, I had a very traumatic and anxiety filled childhood. I nearly died several times during a diffucult birth. I was sick with a variety of genetic disorders and illnesses. And by age 8, I had lost all faith in anything and everyone. At times, I was incredibly sadistic thinking. My pisces nature saved me from the brink of action almost every time. The world subconsciously reacted to my aura. Like a gray rain cloud following me.

BUT at 23 I experienced the strongest psychological turnaround I've been through yet, addressing my deepest ingrained memory responses to "stress" situations, self-worth and worth of choice and dreams, and finally eradicating my crippling social anxiety disorder. A long period of suffering was finally hashed out in a 6 month binge of self-destructive actions mixed with incredible insights and permanent attitude changes.

NOW people are unmistakably drawn to me. I can't quite say why, and they certainly never have any idea either. Strangers and family alike don't want to leave, I'm kicking people out of my house now. People at work always go with my flow. If I'm happy, so are they. I can change a bad attitude in seconds! People stare from across the room. In crowds. It's nuts! A total 180 from where I was before. I train myself daily to use this to good effect. To bring balance to people instead of inciting anger, or manipulating them too much... very easy to do, a very subtle reaction in the conscious brain...

Beyond the natal interpretation, all those born between 1984-1995 have pluto in scorpio and therefore, we all share this common bond, expressed through us in a variety of ways.

Anyway, Pluto is all about magnetism!!

From what I've seen Pluto in the first house makes you give off an air of coming off as too much for people. My brother has it and people can't often deal with his intensity. He's comes off as very authoritarian

But is that our problem though? People feeling our strong presence and not knowing how to handle it?

I don't feel it is. And I swear I'm not being a smartass lol. Just saying that sometimes people feel "small" around us or "in competition" with us when *WE* totally aren't in that frame of mind ourselves! I don't like when people push their insecurities off onto me. I am who I am. I pray that others will embrace who they are also.

On the other hand...Pluto in 1st can attract intrigue & desire from others like crazy! It can get scary - in a good way lol.

Yes! People, manly women, are always acting like I'm trying to compete with them. I always think that they are crazy though. Hehehe.. Any ways yes Pluto in first house can be crazy fun...sometimes. When people aren't saying that you are things that you aren't.
