i was certain this was discussed at one point in the past, but after using our awesome jet speed search engine i couldn;t find an old thread on the topic..Elphaba is the Wicked Witch of The West from G. Maguire's WICKED, she is one of the most enchanting characters i have read in books, her physical appearance and her character are so wonderflly complex that i couldn't even wait to finish the novel before discussing her astro make up. i wont be chiming in until i finish the novel, which would be soon, but i would love to see what others think..

Given that she was born in a different dimension with a completely different and alien mythology (and no indication that they have the same stars & planets as we do, and even if they did that they'd have the same effects) there's no real answer. However, I believe she shows classic Aquarius merc & sun with both a Scorpio moon & ascendant. I'd guess Mars in Aries and Venus in Cancer, but I'm a lot less firm on this one. Not sure about any of the other planets. Btw, there's a musical, too. Many fans of the book don't like it because they take much of the darkness and tragedy out of it (essentially turning a R, or even NC-17, rating into PG), but those are some brilliant songs IMO. I'm just sharing about the musical which I wish I saw (I went to see it before it closed in San Francisco only to find out too late that one had to get tickets weeks in advance). Both Elphaba and Galinda (Glinda, and in the book she finally takes the name Glinda in honor of a Goat* as that was how he always said her name, unable to pronounce it properly) are both a lot less saintly in the book than in the musical. (And for those who don't get it, that's both the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch when they were still friends.) (*In Wicked, the sentient and talking animals were capitalized as Animals, or specific type, like Goat. So a normal goat is "goat" but an intelligent, talking goat is a "Goat" and same for lion/Lion, etc.) IP: Logged |

Ceri, Elphaba in the book is quite different from the musical.. i suggest you read the novel its really good!PJ exactly the placements i have in mind.. i feel she is a combination of air and water, mostly Aquarius though her individuality might be a way of coping with her distinct looks(?) i sence she's a sun and mars in an air sign (most likely aqua) her moon and Venus in Scorpio i would imagine an Aries rising. her rebellion and concern for the under-dogs (Animals) is very Aquarian.
her intense nature and propensity to be vengeful is indeed Scorpio
her quick wit and snap backs are very Arian. her loyal nature seems earthy to me, though i can't pin point it but i sense some Taurus in there somewhere.. i wonder where her insecurity would come from.. i am aware she's a fictional character but to me she's quite real!!

I sense a Virgo vibe in Elphaba. Like Aries Sun with Virgo Moon?
I loved that book when I was in high school. All of Maguire's books are amazing like "Mirror Mirror."

^ maybe that's the shyness/insecurity i couldn't pin point, yes a virgo moon is a good fit but not as good as a scorpio moon..
