Michel Gauquelin was a French psychologist who was also, as many psychologists are, a statistician. He was also avidly interested in astrology since he was a kid because one of his parents was an astrologer (I think it was his dad). He was known as Nostradamus by his peers because of his elaborate astrology readings. One day he gave one of his clients a natal chart report describing her personality and the client agreed to most of the interpretations. After the session ended, he was shocked to find he had given her the wrong report. The natal chart description actually belonged to somebody else. Devastated, his whole life fell apart as he realized that astrology may have just been an illusion.Read about the Mars effect in this Wikipedia article to see how he set out to prove to HIMSELF that astrology was FALSE.
Only to discover that astrology was true.

EDIT:
Neo-astrology is the name of the concepts based on Gauquelin's findings. What exactly did Gauquelin find? read more here: http://astrologyexpressed.wordpress.com/2009/12/03/guest-post-drew-b iggin-on-gauquelin-sectors-in-a-chart/
