I don’t believe that sun in h8 would make one a “Scorpio” per say, as the nature of the Sun is not “changed” due to the house position.Add to that, Taurus is Scorpio’s opposite and perhaps not enough attention is paid to how much these two signs have in common. When afflicted Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) can be destructive in relationships and Venus (ruler of Libra/Taurus) can bring about separation.
Alternatively, Pluto is renowned for its healing capabilities whilst some would consider Love (Venus associated) to be the ultimate healing power.
I would focus more on planets in that particular house and whether the ruler position of that house corresponds with the themes of the house.
You should also look at the rulers of the other placements throughout your chart to see whether the themes of the 8th house are re-curing.
Being “transformed” by relationships or feeling “changed” by them is not only limited to the “Scorpio” sign .It however has been given the “Scorpio” label to attach the symbolic meaning of letting go of all patterns of being/thoughts and being “renewed” by an alternative point of view; hence the Eagle theme.
Signs are the energy of the planet and the houses represent the themes of that energy.
A Scorpion with Sun in 5th does not “become” a Leo but the energy that the Sun expresses itself will be in the themes associated with the 5th house; children, lover, creativity, self expression, recreation etc.
In these areas he will express the intense, driven and bold energy of the Scorpio sun sign. Such an individual will take competitive sports seriously/ will seek to understand his children in great depth/ will express emotional intensity in his creative projects/ with his/her lovers etc.
This is especially so, when the 5th house themes are recurring in the chart.
But it will also be greatly affected if there is an opposition to it (say a Moon in the 11th). Then the individual will feel torn between the attachment to his children/own creativity and that to his friends/what the group mentality is (11th house in Taurus).
I, for instance, have my sun in 8th, the ruler (Jupiter) is in my 8th. I express my Sag energy in 8th house themes (legacy, death, renewal, inheritance, other people’s money etc. sometimes you must read the interpretations much like you read poetry (they are rarely literal in their meaning)
When it comes to death/dying, I am not afraid (typical Jupiter joviality) and actually believe that death is the release/freeing of the ego (sun conjunct Jupiter in Sag and 8th).
I have Uranus in 8th opposing Vesta in 2nd. Though I have unconventional/even radical opinions when it comes to death (Uranus in 8th), I have conservative views when it comes to money /personal values (Vesta in 2nd). In this regard, I prefer to be conventional and even downright prudish (Vesta).
