The tighter the better, but how much space do you allow until you don't count it as an aspect?

5 degree orb for major aspects, natally
3 degree applying and 2 degree separating for transits / progressions
3 degree orbs in synastries & composite (I vary on this one, actually, sometimes I allow wider orb)

Generally, 8 degrees for planets and up to 10 degrees for luminaries and ruler of ascendant (Hard aspects). Also, if a planet is strongly represented within the chart, I allow a wider orb such as this.

I think it to be a bit preposterous to disregard anything beyond 2 or 3 degrees. If too much of the chart remains unexamined, potential valuable information will elude your attention, and it isn't a whole analysis. It's important not to be too fixed in this regard. There's too much grey area and a lot of considerations and exceptions must be made on an individual basis.
