Are the reasons Cancers tend to be so blindly patriotic is because they associate love of country with love of parents and family?

I used to be very close with a Cancer guy who worshiped his mother, no matter how bad she acted. He's also blindly patriotic and believes the military can do no wrong ("because it wouldn't be allowed") despite that he was a rape counselor for years and shared that he's seen plenty of rape victims harshly silenced and rapists protected by the Army (he even warned me not to enter the military myself because of this despite that he normally worships the military). This morning it occurred to me that he treats the military like he treats his mom, with worship, forever forgiving (and rationalizing) of extreme faults, and becoming furious with anyone who made any disparaging remarks about either. I assumed this was because he's Cancer and Cancers are supposed to be very patriotic (to institutions more than to ideals).

And if so, what if the nation and mother come into conflict? As an extreme example, say the government crushed this Cancer's mother for politically speaking out, which side would he likely take? And would it make a difference if he believed his mother actually was a menace (say she was aiding ecoterrorist who put spikes in trees that injured loggers) or if he knew for a fact that his mother was willfully framed for crimes she didn't commit and put away (or shot "resisting arrest")?

IOW, who comes first, mommy or the government, or are they more or less about the same? And is the reason for patriotism just another love of family?

Yes,your country is your home - it goes beyond associations,it's a given.

Seems like ideals to me,only filtered through institutions, but astrologically there is more to him than Cancer.

People who tend to rationalize can't be persuaded by hypothesis.
