For example ruler of the 6th in the 1st . which is more important the 6th or the 1st . This makes synastry and house overalays more complicated ....yet more interesting .

I think they are very important. I like to think of it like this, you get the one area of life from the other. You get THIS from THAT. An example would be someone who had their 4th house ruler in the 9th house. They would feel at home, comforted, secure (4th) when they are abroad, traveling, or exploring new philosophies/places (9th). So they get the 4th (this) from the 9th (that). In this case the 9th fulfills the 4th so the 9th would be more important.

The chart is full of "strings", and the best thing to do is follow them to where they conclude, or where they "fall" so to speak. Those are the things you are most fulfilled by in the end.
