how can someones moon in libra be trine to someone elses virgo ascendant in a synastry?
or in a natal if that happens. i've come across these weird aspects when the signs are neighbours. how is that possible?

No it cant be in trine to AC but an moon in the end of libra could be in trine to an DC in start of pisces.

but it says its trine to the asc in the aspect chart not the dsc

The sign for a trine is a complete triangle, a closed one.

The semisquare has one open side.

you meant that trines are represented by triangles. So that wasn't a triangle but a lesser than sign
