Been wondering about this lately -

I tend to use 5 degree orb natally, and 2-3 degrees in transitions. But,if the orb isn't tight (under 3 degree) I always have second thought as to how much an outer planet can reach. Do we give it a smaller orb, since it is a slow moving, generational planet,or should we consider a bit wider rib, having the mind how strong the energy of an outer planet is? Pluto is strongly felt, even when separating,at 4 degrees.

Mercury,in my experience, can hold wide orbs, not as much in transitions,as in natals.
We like to allow wider orbs for luminaries, natally, rather that in transition, for Moon is fast moving.

So,in your experience, how much orb-credit do you give to outer planets, both natally & in transitions?

For the fast moving planets like Moon or Mercury I allow 10 deg. orbs...ok, sometimes with Venus and Mars, too (and Sun)..but usually i really focus on personal planet orbs if they're 5 deg or less.

For all outer planets I use 5 degrees or less, except for Pluto, for which I use 3 or less.

I use 10 for conjunctions/oppositions even with outer planets but I mainly focus on the tighter aspects or the general theme of a chart. Meaning, if the chart ruler is Uranus, Neptune or Pluto it's going to be stronger in the chart. The same goes for planets in their own sign. I also take all angle rulers into account when looking to see what carries the most weight.

With transits from the outer planets I'll use less than 2 degrees and even then I'll be looking for when its exact to narrow it down

Separating transit aspects have nowhere near the same weight as those that are applying....from what I've seen and experienced personally.

I'm not actually sure I can completely agree with the tight orb means it's felt stronger, if you take all chart factors into account, this may not be the case at all. If someone has few aspects to Saturn in the natal, it may make them ultra sensitive to the Saturn transits because they're just not used to the energy...or the reverse could be true.
