Love this show.Okay. I’m inclined to agree with Aeline.
The South Node is what feels safe and familiar. Stephan definitely seems like that for Elena. She ‘recognized’ him instantly, and the relationship with him is comfortable for her. The North Node is a challenge that can scare us, at times, but also usually leads to growing experiences… Elena is attracted to Damon, but she’s also afraid of him. He’s kind of like forbidden fruit, too unpredictable, dangerous and wild for her.
My guess is her South Node is Taurus… In the beginning of her life she lived in a simple small town where ‘nothing ever happened‘, and her life was very stable and normal… The death of her parents started her journey towards her Scorpio North Node. She has to walk through the darkness before she can come out the other side a changed person. Every sign has a positive and negative side… For a Scorpio North Node the negative side would be that Elena lets the darkness in her life taint her ‘goodness‘. If Elena were to get involved with Damon as he is right now he would be that stereotypical ‘bad influence’ on her. She’d learn about the dark side of Scorpio through him… In a way both the brothers have brought that Scorpionic influence into her life because now Vampires, death, loss, trauma, and darkness have become the new normal in her life. But Damon is definitely more of a dark influence on her then Stephan, who would have continued to be his same stable self if Klaus hadn’t gotten hold of him. The positive side of a Scorpio North Node is learning to let go, and instead of letting dark times make you bitter, finding the inner strength and resourcefulness to transform yourself for the better as a result of it. At some point I suspect Elena will have to let go of both the brothers for her own greater good. One of them will probably come back for her though. (Yeah, I know she’s turned Vamp but I’m pretty sure that at some point they’ll find some “magic” way for her to be human again once the ‘Elena as Vamp’ storyline has lost it’s appeal)
It’s also true that Damon is an ass. And yes, at this point in time he deserves his rejection. They do have sizzling chemistry however, and that makes you root for them despite the how potentially dangerous he is for her. Stephan does whatever she wants. Stephan is portrayed as a little too whipped. He even indulges her tendency to sacrifice herself for her friends. Damon stands up to her, and they have snappy banter which is fun to watch. He is more selfish in his love for her in that he wouldn’t let her sacrifice herself for another not matter who it was. Damon is a challenge for Elena in that he won’t let her control him even if he is madly in love with her and all… In a stereotypical sense he would be the ‘Man’ in the relationship. Elena seems like a stubborn, willful sort, and so for her that’s a challenge, but I think it’s also part of what excites her about Damon… She’d never be able to completely control him. I think she experiences him as very much a Uranus/Mars/Pluto type energy… Thrilling but scary as hell.
(In the actors’ real life synastry his Uranus is sextile her Sun, his Pluto is square her Sun, and his Mars is conjunct her Venus… Crazy chemistry! I think this is why the storyline between them plays out so well on screen. They have the right energy between them to portray that he is obsessed with her, and that she is excited and yet terrified of him, and that the physical attraction is super hot. Regardless of their real life connection (They’re an item), this synastry makes the scenario on screen seem way more believable then if it had been a different pair of actors.)
But yeah, the fact remains that he is too ‘bad’ for her, and if she did suddenly jump to him, without him going through some huge transformation first, it’d be a big mistake. Even though I like them together I’m glad she hasn’t done that. He’s not ready. I actually read on VD fan forums all these girls posting things like “How could heartless Elena reject poor Damon!!”. Really? They’re sooo blinded by his charisma that they overlook the fact that he is still very obviously an ass. Don’t get me wrong, I love Damon’s character. He’s like the best part of the series as far as I’m concerned. But he still ain’t ready for Elena.
