The answer is simple, but the doing is hard, in the way that learning a language is hard. However, I will give you the one word answer—-BLENDING

If you want to get facile with Astrology( and that is all of our goal), you need to understand each of the building blocks. However, you need to understand them, from the heart, if you want to go beyond the robotic print out charts you can buy from the internet. You want to understand the chart more than as a white bread exercise. You want to understand all the nooks and crannies. You want to understand the chart such as someone would look at marble, with all it’s grains, shadings and subtleties.

To this end, one must take several of the key building blocks and study them until they become second nature. Study them until you become fluent with them, as you would with a new language. More importantly, start talking about Astrology in your every day life. Find some friends who love it, as you do. ( I assume you love Astrology if you are reading this article). Find an online community like Linda-Goodman.com in which I am proud to be a Moderator. We welcome newcomers, warmly. Come and say hello to me!

I want to tell you the particular building blocks you must study, in my opinion. First, you must become familiar with the signs. I have a new category with all the Sun Signs on my website. Read all of them, as you must go beyond your particular chart. Buy simple books on Astrology, particularly humorous ones, as that makes it more fun. Try to feel out the particulars of each sign, as you will use this with every single planet. For example, the Sun in Gemini will have Gemini traits in the person’s identity. Venus in Gemini will be attracted to Gemini traits in a partner, such as love of words and a quick wit.

Next, study the domain of each planet. What part of the person does each planet rule. The Sun is one’s identity. The Moon is one’s deepest heart. Mars is one’s drive . The Ascendent is how one looks and one’s mannerisms etc

Then, study the domain of each house.

I have articles on all of these building blocks, so will not repeat the info, here.

if u want to learn astrology you have to be obsessed. You have to breathe, eat, sleep.. astrology. You have to look at your and others' natal charts obsessively as well as your compatibility with everyone you meet just like a stalker would, and read all possible descriptions..from books, the internet, other astrologers.

bu huhaha (awkward silence)======...then you'll begin to see patterns and know intuitively what it means without having to refer to a book.

Then you should also have a database with all these birthdates saved so that as you go on learning new things you can refer back to them and see if the pattern is true or not.

(eyes gleaming, awkward silence....)

From personal experience:

Look at all the astrology books at your library, no matter how funny or casual any one is. I even read an astrology book by a guy who did star signs for a magazine like Vanity Fair or Cosmo, lol.

Become passionate about doing basic natal charts. In fact my advice is to become most passionate first and foremost about your own natal chart. This is how I began to develop a real interest in astrology since I started to put the puzzle of my own life together through aspects, house positions of planets, etc. And in truth you usually know yourself better than anyone else so it makes sense to explore your own natal chart first. After this, ask friends and family if you can explore their birth charts, do quick readings and ask for HONEST feed back.

Read ALL you can on Lindland forum posts and other astrology forum websites. Use the Linda search feature for extensive posts on all sorts of aspects and topics pertaining to astrology. I learned so much from both current and past forum discussions on Linda.

Try synastry when you become very comfortable with natal info.

yep.

I'm obsessed. That's how I got to the point where I now feel confident in my understanding.

I'd say I was better at astrology about 4 years ago than I am now. I've definitely lost the momentum to study constantly and honestly I'm becoming more of a skeptic. Obviously not much of one though if I still come on here.

Plus this forum has changed so much. Everyone is fixated on appearence on here.

I don't think so, Vertiver. I mean, there are some threads on it, but many that are not. It seems to go in cycles, too. I don't read all the threads on appearance. I just skim them.
You make wonderful contributions. I hope you stay and do so.
