Can they be formed by sensitive points in a chart instead of planets?

For instance:

My Jupiter @ 5'31" of Pisces sextile Neptune @ 5'40" of Capricorn are both quincunx my ASC @ 2'44 of Leo.

Technically it forms a YOD, but would I have to wait for another person's planet to activate it by being conjunct my ASC? Or would it still be active because it's in my natal placements?

If the ASC was one of the legs instead of the focal point I don't think it'd have much effect, if any at all, but because it's the point receiving the energy I think it might make a difference.
Yes, no, maybe so?

Alice Portman says that when it involves and angle it makes it more personal. Any yod is only really active when triggered by a transit so having one "point" as an angle isn't going to weaken the nature of it.

thanks quinnlycanastro

Do you know if it has to be activated by transit? Or do synastry placements have an effect as well? Say, if another person's personal planet fell on the midpoint of the sextile in the YOD?

*edit*

Read and you shall receive lol
Thanks again

If it's on the midpoint of the sextile it might act as a kind of stabiliser, being opposite the focal point. They might help to balance the energy out a bit better.

Activated by synastry? That's a hard one, because we often have synastry that reflects the transits we're going through. We attract people with the natal aspects that we're experiencing through transit...

Everything I've read on yods tends to focus on them being activated by transit, and even then, it's hit and miss as to whether there's an "unexpected event" or not.

I look at them as concentrators of energy, as in a point in the base of the yod gets activated and throws it out through the focal point. But even this can get complicated because sometimes there will be more than one yod in the chart and you'll have a planet that forms the base of one yet is a focal point of another....

That makes a lot of sense!

I was reading somewhere (I wish I remembered the site) that a YOD focal point in a natal chart represents that area in your life that you will have to work with, and possibly struggle through, it's powers more than a few times in your life to reveal it's true purpose. That you could be well into your 40s or 50s before you truly see what it reveals. Some people learn slower, some faster than others. I think this would also have to do with the planets/points involved.

My thoughts on the synastry were that these people who activate YODs in another person's natal are there to either:
a) stabilize the energy of the YOD native by being opposite the focal point while it activates the 2 base planets. This giving the focal planet/point something to connect to and release through besides those crazy quincunxes (is there a correct way to say "multiple quincunx"?) or
b)activate the YOD by being conjunct the focal point, therefore energizing the two base planets for the Native, but not giving the focal point that point of release. More like, piling on top of it another planet's lessons to be learned.

I've read this before! But never really looked at it.. So I just did
Most notable because the moon moves so quickly:
T.Moon was trine N.Neptune when I met my fiance, he has this placement in his natal.
T.Pluto square N.Venus, he has this as well.
T. Sun, Merc, and Mars were all moving through my 7th house in Aquarius. His Sun, Venus, and Merc are all Aquarius.
This is really neat. I'm gonna look at other people now

Anyway, what I was getting at with this was that maybe it's like a permanent transit having another person effect/afflict a YOD through synastry

I meant to get back to this yesterday....

I agree the focal point often represents an "area" that has to be worked with and there is often a struggle, maybe because there's just so much energy behind it?

I think it's more like a) than b) but saying that, what I've noticed is that the other person will generally be involved in the yod "event" or "incident"....

I don't see yods as being active all the time, they get triggered by a moving body. Which is why they have a reputation for being around when there's an unexpected event.

As an extreme example...

I have 4/5 yods and my brother also has a couple, one of the points of one of his yods is the same as mine,

one day [10 yrs ago now], that same point was being transited by another planet.

He'd called in to visit and was in the kitchen whilst I was sat in the huge hallway doing some work [kids had taken over the lounge]. My glass front door was to the left of me and without warning, someone from the outside kicked it in, glass was flying everywhere, the man was shouting....didn't have a clue who he was.

My brother had come out of the kitchen to see wtf was going on and opened the door to the man who was in an absolute rage, I was already on the phone to the police. My brother told him he'd have to pay for it and the man was still shouting and being aggressive,

it ended with my brother punching the guy in the face, he fell, hit his head, had a brain haemorrhage. Luckily he survived.

The guy had got the wrong house......he wanted his brother's who lived two doors down..

This is a classic yod event. No warnings, no "asking for it", just a completely random event that really doesn't happen to an individual on an everyday basis.

I remember being on an astro forum when Alice Portman talked about her yods and those of her family. And she talked about the day she lost her daughter and how the yods had been activated by transit. She got caught up in a typhoon with her four young kids and couldn't hold on to them all... long sad story short, her daughter was separated from her[as were two of the others] and she died.

In her book "Yods" Karen Hamaker Zondag also talks about the seemingly random nature of the events that would occur around people who have yods. Obviously it's not always as extreme as what happened to Alice, or even violent as in the case with my brother.... but the characterstic of "didn't see that one coming" has yod written all over it.

And for that reason, I always think that if you have synastry that activates the yod, it's more likely that the person will be involved in the event rather than it being like having a permanent transit.

Hope I made sense.

After the night I've had and the revelations I've heard...this makes perfect sense.

Thank you so much!

Yes, I see it as kind of an enduring activation (ofcourse I won't exclude transits as an extra activation).
Planetary geometry between two charts is number one to me and the more planets involved the stronger the bond.
In your case points on 4-5 degr. of any sign would activate *you*.
Let's say someone has a planet on 4 Gem. which would make a double Yod and even a type of *FORTRESS* wich would be very strong to have between both.
Just in case you want to share, does your fiance have any planets on these 4-5 points?

@mir

His Aquarius Mercury, Capricorn Neptune, and Taurus NN all fall at 4 or 5 degrees of their respective signs.

His mercury sits right on the midpoint of the base of my YOD and his Aqua Sun is only 2 degrees 24 mins away from being there too.

We also have a YOD in our synastry with a sextile between his Moon and my Pluto (which is conjunct his Pluto almost exactly thanks to mine being Retro) and both his Moon and Pluto are inconjunct my Venus.

I've read that YODs are rare to find, but they seem to be all over my current relationship like white on rice

Angles do count!
My dreaded Yod is formed of Saturn and Neptune at the base and the MC at the apex which means that the IC makes it a boomerang yod
Also I have another one if we take Asteroids into account, Pallas and Venus at the base and Jupiter at the apex
I've not quite got to grips of how both of them actually work but two yods, seems like I'm in for a ride :P

I have a friend, who's ASC (which I just recently learned wasn't what I had been thinking it was for the past 2 years because he had his birth time wrong) and Venus are conj my ASC, and therefore activating my YOD at the focal point...

I don't know how this acts as a YOD, but I can tell you that this person has more appeal to me than any other creature that has ever graced this planet. There are a lot of synastry aspects that would suggest this too, that go both ways, but I wonder if my end isn't more intense because of that YOD? That would make a LOT of sense. He's the focal point of my Jupiter and Neptune getting along famously.. Expansion and higher learning/understanding with a focal point of love...
haha apparently I have a knack for making even ominous aspects sound wonderful. Leave it to a Pisces, right?
