I am growing a garden... Well, actually a tiny forest. I started gardening because my soul has A.D.H.D. and likes to investigate new things with the hope of discovering something that feels like ME. Having Neptune conjunct my Sun square Moon, has always been an experience of self discovery. And by "Self Discovery" I mean exploring the depths of the ocean with nothing but a match stick. This conjunction forms a paradox where Self and Selflessness exist together, a person who feels a deep flexibility and lack of permanence as part of their concept of Self.

I heard a while back that a good way to heal the heart is tending to it like a garden. That some areas require pruning, arrangement, and structure while others require room to grow wild, but too much of either can cause problems. The Sun is associated with the heart, the Self, and the concept of joy and I feel Neptune has a tendency to billow through one's garden like a thick fog. This can incite the squared Moon to only experience joy of whatever can be perceived in the personalized moment, considering all lost in the fog to be insubstantial or unreal. This aspect configuration is a beautiful opportunity to cultivate and devote deep love and acceptance toward isolated experiences, but seems to challenge ones ability to derive personal joy from the entirety of one's experiences. One develops an unconditional love for "all the other parts of the garden that I'm sure are beautiful too" and it can become difficult to experience actual, applicable, and non-idealistic joy from the complete picture.

Even the concept of Joy is subject to disintegration in the eyes of Neptune square Moon, who seeks comfort in the substantial and discovers nothing of substance. This can lead to escapism in my opinion. A desire to find joy in the personal present, because the space/time which stretches beyond the present/self tends to provide a generalized ( almost disconnected ) understanding that joy is out there (just not directly applicable to self....whatever "self" is). My escape is video games. I love the opportunity to have a controlled stream of excitement and reward. It is such a strong desire I can completely neglect the world, just to remain in that steady stream.

Today instead of playing a video game I visited my forest-garden. Most of the plants have gone to seed and it thrills me that my weeds are all edible greens. I picked a huge bundle of arugula and called the chickens and peafowl over for a treat. After scattering the greens about, I decided it was time to go play a game, but instead of leaving right away, I sat with the dog, and watched the birds enjoy their feast. The peacock walked over to me, seeking any secret morsels I may have saved him (it is tiring work doing the butt-dance at peahens all day). He blinked and his eyelid was the same iridescent blue as his neck.

Somewhere in the moment, a gust of wind blew the fog out of my heart/garden. There was such rich perfection and joy in the world. I immediately compared it to my experience playing video games and understood the contrast between life joy and settled-for, manufactured joy. I guess the real challenge for Neptune is the same as anything Piscean, swim against the current and reach your destiny, or go with the current and vanish into obscurity. Escape is attractive, because it is easy. It is just enjoyable enough to meet one's needs, it keeps one's situation small and controlled, and it comes in steady supply. Joy to a Sun square Moon (especially Moon in the 6th like me) requires work, challenge of one's comfort, bravery, and the pay off is access to one's entire heart/self.

Hiya Xiiro ~

Beautiful read this was. And I never saw that Fiona Apple video before...if only she could actually sing!

This morning I got up at 5:30 am and the full moon was shining so bright on the snow-covered fields and trees, it looked like blue daylight. Over the next few hours the light changed to pink and purplish as the moon and sun opposed each other over the fields and lit everything up most eerily.

It made me very happy but also sad, to be surrounded by such beauty but unable to meld with it totally. So I did turn to escapism (moon square Neptune)...being deliberately non-productive, because nothing else interested me as much as that moon-set. And I was in a funk that the coolest stuff always just trots along ethereally.

But who knows, maybe it watered the garden of my heart, and I just haven't seen what'll bloom from it yet.

this reminds me of one late afternoon a few years back, my friend and i were walking the dog in a place aptly named 'happy valley' ('tis a real place, in surrey)

the sun was setting on one side, but the moon was in full view on the other. through that valley at the bottom of the rolling hills, as we walked towards it, a thick mist gathered - coming out of the neck of the woods, spewing outwards in the field, towards us. of course we were drawn to walk towards it, and then through it completely...and out the other side.

we were both completely gobsmacked at the time, in awe at such a mystical vision, one which i can now reminisce upon with an astrological and philosophical pov.

great stuff, xiiro. thank you.
