I came up with the show off aspect( or wear on your sleeve aspect)
This only applies if you have a planet in your 1st house. Which House Ruler is it? That house is the one you want to show off about.

I have R of the 6th in the first. I like to show off that I am of service. I, also, am a hypochondriac, which is classic for this position,as you "wear" your health on your body/outer manner( which is the 1st house, as you know)

3 mars, pluto, Saturn.

Mars rules h6.

Saturn rules the IC and the 3rd.

Pluto rules the 1st.

Jupiter rules my 2nd house, but I am not a show off about money or what I own and I live rather modestly.

Uranus rules Aquarius, but Aquarius is intercepted into my 3rd house. I have decent communication skills and I incorporate them into my job, but I'm not sure it's something I show off.

Neptune rules my 4th house, and again, I'm not really a show off about my family either...

They are all in Sagittarius, which is ruled by the Jupiter in the 1st.

Ruler of the 2nd in the 1st would be someone who wants to appear as if they are wealthy such as have an expensive car, clothes, pocketbook, shoes etc or look as if they do.

It is a mindset, not the actual car etc

I realize the first house is not only about "showing off," but this thread is about the first house and "showing off," so that is what I was addressing.

I don't over idealize my family, but I do realize that I got lucky in the parent lotto at least. My brother leaves something to be desired, but c'est la vie... All families have their issues. But, like I said, I got lucky with my parents because they have always been supportive people. They can be critical, but not to the extent that I've seen other people's parents be. Honestly, I'm not super close to my family. I love them, but I'm very independent myself, and so I keep a certain distance. The irony is that I DON'T look closely like my immediate family. I am a throwback to my mom's side of the family. My middle name is my aunt's name, but it's not something I've ever gone by and most people don't even know what it is, because it's a unique name, so I don't share it.

Ami let me throw my 2 cents to it

I think that the place where our ruler of 1st is where we tend to show off (ruler of ones appearance) while rulers of other houses in the 1st bring a strong effect over ones appearance

perhaps you both are right in a sense~

The 1st House having the ruler of other planets in it would affect your appearance, but your own ASC ruler would affect your persona directly, but they're just two layers of the total image we wear. We'd have to consider the aspects made with the ASC itself, and then the ruler of that house, and then those that involve the ruler of other houses that fall into it.

It all makes sense~ considering people are much more complicated than one or two effects on that house. ~ layers upon layers going into the image we project~ all that good stuff.

For example:
(I have zero planets in my 1st House, but may be projecting from my ruler being in his position-communication to Jupiter/Neptune - Mars/Pluto, as well as having the wide trine to Mercury direct, and square to Uranus from the ASC node itself.)

Am I showing off (in some sense) in areas of imagination, exploration, communication, and rebelliousness...??

I was just narrowing that down. Do you see what I mean?

The person takes "pride" in the House which sends it's ruler into the first house.
