Vicky, you say "Oh, really? Ok...Date, time and place"

An atheist still [I] believes [I] in something. That something simply isn't in God. Science is there god. Isn't it? Ha, I'm pretty sure but not entirely. Running on three hours of sleep.

It totally depends on the situation and who is asking. Like some other people mentioned, if the person is looking for a fight then why bother?

If someone is honestly asking because they are curious, I usually start off by telling them that astrology is *not* the horoscope page in the newspaper, and that it's way more involved than that. If they keep asking questions then I will give them a brief explanation of what a chart is so that they understand it's more involved than a Sun sign.

If they are simply asking me why I believe it then I say 'because it works'.

I don't call it a science though, because you cannot measure it in the same way you would a science experiment. It's very interpretive and so I personally think of it as a tool or a language.

As Ceridwen mentioned, psychology was thought to be ridiculous at one time too and although there are tons of guidelines within psychology and psychotherapy, it is still interpretive in many ways. For example, there are different ways to get to the same diagnosis or interpretation and there is always a chance that the way one psychologist sees something could differ from another psychologist, depending on their bias. That's very much like astrology since there's more than one way to read a chart.
