Hey!Do squares to our ascendants tend to neglect the traits of our rising sign in any way? I ask because i am Virgo rising, but i have no clue why. I don't see me in the descriptions of Virgo rising, etc. I have a 1 degree square to my ASC - Mars is doing this. Could this be the reason? IP: Logged |

In my natal chart, I have: Sun in Scorpio Mercury in Libra Pluto in Libra Ascendant in Capricorn Sun square Ascendant Mercury square Ascendant Pluto square Ascendant In my experience, squares to the ascendant indicate that I screw up my self-expression and the image I project. One of the things I've been noticing is that, in a stressful situation, it's difficult or impossible for me to write or say what I really mean to say. The correct/appropriate response never even comes to my mind. The response I end up giving is "sideways", at cross-purposes with my real intent; the response is too weak, or passive-aggressive, or too strong -- often with all the depth and power of my sun's (Scorpio's) negative emotions backing it up. I end up responding the wrong way to the wrong thing. I read somewhere that Pluto square Ascendant indicates that the native can be a chameleon, consciously altering their image to fit in to any social situation. This can be a blessing, but it's more like a curse. I've never been to a funeral, but I can imagine myself acting appropriately solemn even though I don't really care -- even though I had no emotional ties to the person who died -- because I understand that solemnity is what is expected, so that's how I behave. I'm generally not a manipulative person, contrary to the Scorpio stereotypes, but in a few situations where I really, really wanted something, I acted like a completely different person in attempt to manipulate someone else's perception of me, so they would sympathize with me or take pity on me. I've also acted friendly and accepting with someone that I absolutely hated, to reduce the chance that I would get into a major conflict with them. I feel that I cannot simply "be myself". I feel like I don't know who I am (Midheaven in Scorpio?), and even if I did, no one would accept me. I imagine that I project the mask of my Ascendant pretty strongly, since I'm unsure of what's really behind that mask, and I'm worried about other people looking around in there. This is a miserable way to live. ------------------ My natal chart IP: Logged |

^ I assume your sun is somewhere near the MC, Blackbird, so when you do harness that energy, it will be good IP: Logged |

It is, but it's not close enough to be conjunct. What energy are you referring to?

Aeline; with a square from Mars, perhaps you'll be much more assertive and pushy. Maybe even excitable and really energetic, yes yes?I have Jupiter and Pluto square my AC (from Scorpio to Leo). Both enhance my charisma and confidence, while Jupiter adds recklessness and sometimes trampling over others. Pluto...I can be oppressive and demanding to people close to me. Don't pick the flower you love for that will kill it...but everything has to die eventually any ways, no? IP: Logged |

I have Moon/Chiron square ASC and I've been thinking about what to write on here for like 5 minutes.. All I know is that I'm moody and a home-body. Security means a lot to me.IP: Logged |

All aspects to the ascendant, good bad or neutral mitigate things to some degree. With the more positive ones, obviously it goes over better with other people than the squares do.In fact, according to some of the interpretations in the Astrologer's Handbook, even node aspects to the ascendant can affect your appearance and how you come across to others. I'm actually going to go even further than that and say that any strong sign or planet activity in a chart can mitigate things. Like people with lots of Neptune activity in their chart, being mistaken for a Pisces ascendant because they 'look like' one even if they're a Gemini Rising in actuality, that sort of thing. Yes, more pushy and more energetic, yes. And less perfectionist in a sense that everything is mess on my desk and not only. No Virgo. As for the other aspects to ASC, they affect as well, right? So Neptune exact trine to ASC also gives something... IP: Logged |

Yah sounds like Mars! Where is your Mercury, by the way? Dispositors are pretty key too. IP: Logged |

The ascendant isn't a person's actual personality - it's the initial impression they give others. So with a Mars square, most people, when they first meet you, might perceive you as being combative or aggressive in some way; that's the first impression they get.Whether or not that's actually what you're like, would depend on the rest of the chart - it could be just a case of you appearing to be that way when actually you aren't that bad. If it were a trine, they'd perceive you as just feisty or something, assertive in a positive way, because the energy of the planet is working with your ascendant in a positive way. My chart ruler (Uranus) quintiles my (Aquarius) ascendant - I have a few ascendant trines, too. Usually I do get immediately pegged as 'odd' alot by others, but just like the quintiles and trines indicate, it usually goes over well with most people - I get pegged more as 'quirky' or 'eccentric' instead of a 'weirdo' in a negative sense. I have 3 squares to my ASC... thankfully they are wide, but they still do count. Sagittarius rising, 11 dg. Moon in Virgo H9, near MC, 19 dg. Chiron in Virgo conjunct Moon, 18 dg. Saturn in Pisces H3, 3 dg. So I've always had a hard time expressing my inner self to people when I first meet them. I feel I have an underlying current of neurosis that comes out from my Moon and an obsession with my career that is very prevalent. A lot of people see me as too mature and some people joke around that I talk like a professor. But it can make me seem socially distant and cold despite how my Sag rising just wants to laugh and have fun. Doesn't make it any better than my Moon and my Saturn are quindecile... so basically I guess I come off to people as an emotionally reserved, gloomy workaholic sometimes. OTL Haha... maybe I got it wrong? I always have a hard time getting what the Moon sq. ASC means from the Midheaven side. I knew someone with it from the Nadir/IC side and they were obsessed with their family to a bizarre point. IP: Logged |

Scorpio Moon square Capricorn ASC...apparently I am very aware of my feelings and how I am conveying them with my body/facial expressions and am constantly trying to control it and then trying to let go? I can relate to suppressing scorpio energy but it doesn't come out as capricorn energy. Hmm...it comes out as awkward typically.IP: Logged |

Saturn squares my Scorp Asc... its right on my IC... Its pretty horrible most of the time. I doubt myself a lot and feel like I'm not really worth anything sometimes. Its hard to snap myself back into reality cause I'm pretty awesome actually. Maybe I should practice telling myself that every morning in the mirror. IP: Logged |

venus and uranus sq my asc ~ uranus is tighter of the two...but either way.... it's not much fun of a placement --- T_T i don't think there's any negotiating having a virgo ascendant with both venus-uranus squaring it. the energies are all at odds, the only saving grave in my eyes is having mercury fall in the same house as venus and uranus - so yeah - maybe that's just one more reason i tend to appear (not so much physically i believe, but as far as 1st impressions go) Sadge-like... that too, my Nn is square it.... and i have no clue how that effects things... meh~ lol IP: Logged |

So what do others think about you? Do they see you as pushy and aggressive? What sign do you remind yourself of? A fire sign or Scorpio? NM, I just read the post where you already explained that. Perhaps it's the trine from Neptune that causes the disorganization? I have the same sort of problem. I am Virgo sun but am absolutely no neat nick obsessed with organizing and cleaning. In fact, I am rather disorganized. When I read these descriptions of Virgo suns being super efficient, ultra organized and kinda like nurse Rachet, makes me cringe some because that's the opposite of how I am. Totally and completely. Heh. IP: Logged |
