The house of duties? Routines? Daily work? Health and illness? The sixth house is a bad placement?

What does it mean if my Venus is in the sixth house?

Bought a book- Parker's Astrology by Julia and Derek Parker.

This is what they have to say on Venus in the 6th house:

The desire for exercise is not usually increased but the need may be , since rich food and wine will be enjoyed. There is also a distinct possibility of weight problems which may be throid related since the metabolism could be slow. The individual may be either very good at following a constant work routine or languid, tending to procrastinate over regular jobs.A steady routine is best,as it can stabilize or even increase the metabolism.

There will be a dislike of working in dirty or unpleasant conditions, although these may be tolerated if the end product is aesthetically pleasing. For instance, pottery or horticulture could attract. Good manners are important, and the subject will set excellent example to others but be quick to criticize them over any lapses.

Can you relate?

You will meet the love of your life at a sporting event (football game, etc.) or at a yoga studio. You may also find love in the workplace. You may have luck finding easy or glamorous jobs; fashion company, furniture, & jewelry stores, beauty pageants.

I'm also curious about this house. I've read you have to look at the ruler first, then the planets within.

Whatever the ruler of this house says, Venus would point to a feminine or beautiful or pleasing person/circumstance.

Hmmmm...from what I've gathered, the Sixth House is a diligent house. Planets there indicate they can be rather diligent. Like...a old friend of mine had Mercury in the Sixth and they would research everything to the ends of the earth, and back again. They would find everything out about what they needed - and it was a Libra Mercury so they would synthesise and shorten...

And all of that long after everyone else would be sated with a paragraph or two of reading.

I have a Sixth House Moon and long hours of work don't really tire me. I can go for a long time, not get tired, remain my cheery/energetic self. My emotional reserves are, well, diligent! It's the best word I can think of. I'm also naturally orderly. I feel my best when the floors are clean, the beds are made, and the dishes put away.

Venus in 6th is like Venus in Virgo but expressed in the method that that planet is in(if in Virgo, it's a double whammy and much of what is being described for Venus in 6th may strongly apply to the native)

Venus is what we enjoy doing, what defines our values and what we derive great pleasure from.

Venus in 6th may enjoy working/being useful/ being an active contributor. They may enjoy effeciency, refinement and order(this may be a specific turn on for them).

It is likely that Venus in 6th will enjoy attending to domestic tasks or at-least derive great pleasure in "running the home". Being in sound health and mind is usually a lifelong objective which they deem will bring them considerable pleasure(more so when the Sun is in 6th actually).

Art that is mathematically sophisticated may arouse their interest , as would be "home renovations" or things that involve improving an existing system.

I wouldn't say that Venus in 6th can make one meet their lover at work, but it does make one popular or extremely well-received at work(especially by seniors). Infact, someone with this position, may be nervous about starting any type of "office romance" , purely because they do not want to fall out of favour with influential people.

"The 6th House
The 6th house is ruled by the planet Mercury and has it's influence on the sign of Virgo. On the one hand it represents our mundane world of work, employment, sub servants people like employees, servants, health, diet, nutrition, food served, clothing, stress, coping with stress, pets, domestic pets, illness, analysis, exercise, taking responsibility for your efforts, worry , inner restlessness, general insecurity, internally generated rejection, co-workers, dependents, faithfulness, allegiances, devotion, and the healing process, are all things mirrored in the 6th house. It rules the quality of your health and your physical well being. Workaholics have heavy 6th house placements, feeling that they have to work harder to gain recognition and acceptance. hypochondriacs have heavy sixth house placements, as well as health conscious fitness freaks. The 6th house tells us all about your eating disorders and your food preferences. Organization and the ability to be organized as well as your feelings about work in general. Any planets in a house strengthen or weaken it. Making it more or less significant according to your birthday and your particular natal birth chart."

The only thing I have in the 6th house is Lilith in Pisces. I have dealt with employers AND co-workers that are abusive, pick on me, until I stand up to them (after that their tone totally changes). I don't like being distracted at work, or from my work, by idle chit chat, especially if its about personal matters.

"In positive charts these people are highly intelligent, usually executive workers capable of the kind of detachment or 'cool' that makes for excellent critical powers & efficiency."

With Lilith in the 6th house, a person’s natural sense of duty and how he or she goes about getting things done is what is judged by others as potentially dangerous. People who might be in a position to mentor or train the person as an apprentice may sense something unruly and threatening about him or her and not be willing to take the person on as a student. It also indicates that this person’s natural mentors are connected with Lilith; understand and express their own version of Lilith’s energy. Finding such people will be difficult if Lilith is hiding in the person, and if she is not, finding them will involve first crossing many potential teachers off the list who reject the individual’s forthright expression of his or her reality.

Hmmm...so can having a sixth house Venus mean I enjoy being of service to my partner?

I in fact did meet my lover at work! We work comfortably together and all the employees know about our relationship, including our managers.

My Lilith is in Pisces 6th house as well, and strangely, I can relate!
Everyone likes me at work, except this one manager who does seem to be disturbed by the way I work. She will attempt to write me up for things that everyone else gets away with, etc.

I know! Mostly people like me to, but there always seems to be the ONE person (probably because they are representing Lilith energy for me) that just has it out. If I stand up to that energy, it totally goes away, and a friendship actually comes out of it. I went so far as to quit a job over it, only to get asked to come back because it was obvious I was a good employee who worked hard and was efficient.

I had a teacher that disliked me for no reason but when I confronted her about it in a parent-teacher conference, her attitude changed tremendously and she became one of my favorite teachers.

I would like to know more about how Lilith works.

I met a woman like that but she considered herself a spiritual teacher. I wasn't seeking out a teacher. My Leo roommate was her "student". Anyways, I ended up getting involved with what they were doing since I lived there, but this woman didn't like me for whatever reason. She insisted on giving me this "free" reading that was really negative. Saying I needed to break up with my boyfriend and that I should change my sons name, oh! and that I was a "bad witch" (?) I have lots of germanic/norweigan roots and I follow the wheel of the year, I celebrate the solstices and fire festivals but I've never done anything malicious to anyone! I moved out, but when back for an Astrology workshop. We seemed to connect a bit better that time, maybe since I was so eager to learn I wasn't letting her opinion of me get in the way of that, and I never disrespected her, just disagreed on a few things forthright

Any ideas what Chiron in the 6th might indicate? It is positioned exactly on the cusp between Capricorn and Aquarius.

Ok Just saw this on cafeastrology re Chiron in 6th-

"In the sixth house, it may indicate a pre-occupation with health issues, maybe to do with accidents when you were young. You tend to obsess about your own health. You have great healing ability and when you have come to the point of dealing with your own issues, you will achieve great success in this field."

I am more concerned about unlovely childhood or early experiences and it make sense that when I've healed those, I should be able to better attend to others. And I have been told many times that I could be a healer.

This is definitely a characteristic of 6th House. People tend to forget that the 6th house rules pets and service along with health and work. I have Virgo Moon 6th House and I am instinctively wired to make sure people are safe, sane, and nourished. The people I know often come to me with advise to fix problems they struggle with, because I have an intuition that just knows how to arrange a problem so it is no longer a problem. In the case of Venus in the 6th, you may value fixing things for others because of the comfort and joy it brings them. You may also look at love as a responsibility which needs to be tended to and maintained. On a health level, being alone, surrounded by ugly, or unable to relate over long periods of time could cause health problems (depending on Venus's sign, it may indicate turning to a poor diet when you feel lonely).

I mentioned pets earlier, because pets endure a lot from their handlers, yet continuously respond with love. This does not mean the pets enjoy what they endure, they just continue to love us because that is what you do for those in your pack. Venus in the 6th house can be similar, in the effect that love may be based on one partner being of service to another (or in an ideal situation, service is a reciprocated experience). If Venus is also in Virgo, your love may be meticulous. You identify all the tiny needs your partner may have and make an effort to nourish each one of those needs. I have referred to Venus in Virgo as "monkey love" because the person shows love to their partner in the same way that monkeys preen each other. They will comb through every hair of their partner, making sure they are clean, happy, healthy, and handsome.

I have Moon Pluto and Lilith in the 6th house. In Scorpio.

Definitely don't trust most health news from mainstream media. I'm not into "big pharma" health at all. I'm all about the naturopathy health.

Not exactly the most organized and neat person either.

Well put! Though my Venus is in Pisces, I treat my lover with monkey love! I love picking the lint out of his clothes and making sure his hair is in place. I don't pop any pimples though. That's gross.

With Venus exalted in Pisces, your meticulous nature extends not only to your lover's physical well-being, but their emotional and spiritual well-being too. Along with a desire to preen comes a desire to explore. You not only feel service has its place in love, but you feel the need to provide 10 star service. You can gain personal fulfillment from being the best at loving (not from praise particularly, but just knowing you have provided the best quality love). like a skeleton key, able to morph into anything your lover may need, you trickle into every crack of your lover's world, caressing each angle and facet, tasting it, and understanding it. They may even be amazed at how well you get along, and unless they have complementary chart elements, it is likely you get along because you have bent yourself into a compatible piece.

This placement gives people a lot of skill in understanding the needs of others. If Venus is poorly aspected, the issue of "how far one should compromise their self for others" can be a factor too. Any time Pisces is concerned one must be aware and respectful of their own boundaries to remain healthy.

=)

So true.
I truly adapt to my lover's needs, wants, desires, and interests. I made the mistake of adapting too much to my boyfriend when we first met that farther into the relationship he was clueless about my interests and the like.
