What, in the natal chart, makes a person a naturalist? What makes a person want to be outdoors as much as possible? Is it Sagittarius? quote: Author and naturalist Henry David Thoreau, though a Cancerian, was born with a powerful stellium of Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune in Sagittarius. He is best known for his book Walden, a celebration of living simply and in harmony with nature. Interestingly, Thoreau was a leading figure in the American transcendentalist movement, which emphasized intuition over formal religion as a path to spiritual enlightenment.
http://www.bigskyastrology.com/articles/thinkbig.html E.O.Wilson, famous for his book The Diversity of Life, has Saturn in Sag. John Muir and Carl Linnaeus both have Sag MC, according to astrotheme. I wonder if that's significant? Interestingly, many famous naturalists are born in May; including all of the above (except Thoreau), plus Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louis Aggasiz. Could it be a Taurus/early Gemini thing? What do you think?

My dream is also to live in a greenhouse and be surrounded by plants, although that may be hard in the mountains. LOL. One thing though, I love nature and all plants/animals but you can't make me hang out in the cold. I have to be warm! Sag Sun, Libra Moon IP: Logged |

I say we set up a lil commune together! ^^ I see it as being a Jupiter, Venus thing~ but also Lunar and Uranian! Sagittarius and Taurus are pretty much zodiacs wildlife/earth guardians, @__@ if I can put it this way... lol but, Aquarians as well as Cancers are just as likely to want to protect the environment. between these signs are probably the most "tree hugging" individuals... but also those with dominants of these planets I would hope and expect! no? <--- Jupiter dominant, Sadge dominant, Tauro moon 9h... (ven cnj ura sag h4, jupiter-neptune-mercury stellium between cap-sag 4h) EDIT! ~ adding asteroids etc???? okayletsgo! {Ceres-cnj-Lilith cnj Desc Node - sxt Pan/Psyche (Cap h4 ruled by Sag/Cap!), sxt Juno/Osiris/Gaea -which are cnj in Taurus 9h!), tri Ishtar-Saturn-Eros, tri Isis, and cnj North Node!), (I forgot) Virgo Rising, Demeter semisxt Moon/qnx Sun ---- NN cnj Rhea-CNJ-Kronos} asteroids only strengthen my envirobsession! (or should I add more?) Oo; ^^; <3 ---- lol I'm a well known tree-hugger back in my neck of the woods! XD literally.... One fell over with me in it.... I think I hugged it too tightly! IP: Logged |

Ohhhh there's this little vegetarian cafe in town called Growing Seasons and I love it there! Everything is so tree hugger-y! The people have dreadlocks and wear beads and dress oddly. There's wall art made of bee hives...they use lots of avocados. Man! I'm like, damn, we gonna pass around a reefer next?? IP: Logged |

My mother is literally a tree hugger. In the sense that she once stopped our car to get out and hug a tree. Or several. Taurus Sun, Taurus Venus. I am Tau Venus too, but with Aries Sun and I'm a city girl mostly. I like the outdoors but you won't see me hugging trees. IP: Logged |

I'm definitely an old New England tree-hugger here! Used to climb up those apple trees and just 'hang-out' there with my cousins for hours. Hungry? No problem... snacks all around us!!Loved the weeping-willow trees. Seems that each one had a different kind of way-of-being. On weeping-willow bark there were tons of big busy ants. I found that once you've climbed high enough, you pass them all-- going where no ant dares to tread! I'd make my way to the top, to where the branches got pretty thin. After that I'd lay along a branch and just lean into it. The wind would rock; I'd just be one with the tree and enjoy the swaying for literally hours. So quiet and surreal up there. When it came to pine trees, my mom would always seem to "know" that I've been climbing them. I'd get scolded. No matter how hard I'd try, somehow the sap would get stuck in my curls, and mat my hair. Also left black sticky dirt circles all over my hands. Hard to wipe those off! But it just always seemed like such 'company' to me to come under the arbor. Peace. I felt that I could somehow 'breathe' better... The air was richer, more dense, aromatic. I think I enjoyed the pine trees the most. And I'm with Yin, when it comes to needing to stay WARM enough in the outdoors; it can feel miserable, otherwise, and feel like I'm catching a cold! Sagittarius Rising, Venus Taurus 5th, Moon Virgo (9th). Jupiter in the 8th. edit 1206am 1/23 (Sun... in 1st decan of Gemini, in May) added per Stacy's suggestion below EARTH-- Venus Taurus...; Ceres in Capricorn is trine[0:02a] Virgo Moon; and 171 Ophelia is also in Virgo! (Cool suggestion StacyLewis!) IP: Logged |

I'm gonna be the Obvious Ophelia here, and say earth signs. Probably Ceres prominent, and/or any asteroids that have to do with nature, animals, greenery/plant life.I have Venus in Virgo and I've been saying for a while now that when I have my house built I want it near the forest and a lake - which isn't really a pipe dream when you live in a state full of forest and lakes, like I do. I wouldn't say I'm a militant environmentalist, though (those types actually annoy me and I always wish they'd shut the hell up) - I believe people shouldn't just pollute and chop down trees for the hell of it, absolutely, but I'm not obsessive and a.nal about it; I just like being near nature. (I'm heading over to SaturnineMoth's commune right now! ) (I've got heavy planets in water, SaturnineMoth!, including Uranus in Cancer) IP: Logged |

No no no, I wasn't saying the asteroid 'Ophelia' is linked to tree-hugging or a general love of nature LOL. Actually when you said that I went, "Is it?!" and then Googled lmao.

It could be a lot of things, but I would say a lot of earth in the chart.Mars in Taurus is especially earthy, loves the earth literally, being outside is physically grounding.Thoreau had Mars in Taurus and so did the ultimate tree hugger--Julia Butterfly Hill.IP: Logged |

This Earth sign sees a tree and thinks of homes, thinks of firewood, thinks of paper and thinks of economic progress. This Earth sign would prudently chop down a tree any day to further the livelihood of a family. And plant another tree as well. IP: Logged |
