Both systems have 12 players and are "counterparted" with one another. Chinese is lunar based, while Western is solar based. 2 different systems, yet so similar. Year Pillar: General outlook and how people view you. Akin to the Sun in Western Month Pillar: Represents family & work. Think of the imedium coli/Midheaven Day Pillar: Who you are socially and represents your spouse. Very similar to Venus in Western Hour Pillar: The ascendant, but acts more like the Moon in western. It's the secret you. Aries==Dragon Taurus==Snake Gemini==Horse Cancer==Goat Leo==Monkey Virgo==Rooster Libra==Dog Scorpio==Pig Sagittarius==Rat Capricorn==Ox Aquarius==Tiger Pisces==Rabbit IP: Logged |

Year = Rabbit = Pisces sun Month = Ox = Cap IC/MC Day = Snake = Taurus Venus Hour = Rooster = Virgo moonWell, if the day represents spouse....makes sense that my husband and I both have Taurus SN. They say Rabbits and Roosters are like mortal enemies, but I've always been attracted to them. My husband is one; I seek Roosters out as friends; I admire celebrity Roosters probably more often than any other year sign. It's weird but I like thinking of myself as Leo rising AND Rooster rising (which would help explain my attraction to Roosters.) Maybe my birth time corresponds to a cusp. Though I've never seen cusps mentioned in Chinese astrology. IP: Logged |

What traits will a day pillar in water dragon have? Also, day pillar in metal dog. Will these two be incompatible as spouses, since they are opposites and the day pillar rules spoues?

@ Faith - in Chinese astrology, (I've read) compatibility with the opposing sign, relies upon the larger (stronger) beast being able to submit some of his power (placing their ego aside) to the smaller (weaker) beast. Rooster symbolizes the Phoenix... it is the more powerful of the rabbit, rooster duo... (think rooster talons/beak straight for the eyes - lol rabbit... teeth... that's it).... you could go even further into it, and apply the concept of balance, the more balanced the elements and feminine/masculine energies the better~ (the stronger individual is the more balanced individual) - my pillars are balanced, but overall I'm imbalanced by too much Yin, I also lack metal and wood, (there's also really strong numbers and directions attached to it, but I haven't figured into that much yet). lol there are mansions/houses/palaces too, once you look into the other systems that "grin" has mentioned here~ it works very similar to using traditional houses in Western astrology... I'm not sure how it works in synastry yet... ^^; there is probably a method for that... I don't mean to say that each system can be perfectly matched... but, the more I study the more I see the similarities now... before I wanted to find something familiar and kept running into the differences, like they were these huge obstacles that I just couldn't wrap my head around.... serious. >.<; Getting along much better now with each chart/method - still weak with interpretations though... hopefully the books I've ordered will clear a bit of that up... I do have a bazi reader here now, but she is a bit out of the way, and "time is money" (*did a Cappy come up with that saying or whah?*)... lol better to self study with everything I can! <3 *^^* I looked into other vedic astrological methods... now that..... that's an undertaking I am not ready for *shudder* >.<; anyway - *backtotheshadows* ^^; IP: Logged |

.... it has to do with the OPPOSITE sign!rat is opposite HORSE HORSE has to submit some of its power in order to have a healthy/happy relationship with rat... none of the others are so important... it would come down to basic compatibility with those signs. you only look at the OPPOSING beast this way. BOAR - SNAKE... SNAKE is considered more powerful, snake must submit some of his/her ego(selfishness) to compensate the (needs/feelings) of the other animal, and benefit from each others gifts/avoid polar extremes... (humility, respect... are needed.) rat is outdone by the swifter horse, naturally... so for horse to benefit from rat, the horse sign person has to appreciate the rats charm, patience, and wit/craftiness, sense of direction, not just appreciate but to give them the equality that they deserve. it's not literal about size... that's just a way of phrasing things. rat is top of the chain, eh... who else in the line could defeat him in his race... the horse. but combined you get horses grace and rats charm... so they work like polar opposites in western astrology... balancing them makes harmony, but when one of the two are hurt/scorn the other, it is to the extreme... just like western system... ~___~ you always misinterpret things I write... why is that... my Mercury doesn't square you anywhere... T__T #keeps2cents2selfnowon *avoidance* gnite/gday, mon ami

Thank you Saturnine! If the big picture of Chinese astrology is making sense to you, now that you're getting immersed in it, then I have more confidence that it could make sense to me, if I ever applied myself to it. I strongly subscribe to the year signs. I'm TOTALLY a Rabbit. I actually care more about a person's year sign than their Western (month) sign. 'Haven't been keeping track of the the elements too much but my husband is a METAL Rooster and I am a WOOD Rabbit and he can definitely chop me down sometimes. I agree that he is the stronger one. Suzanne White says that just about all the Rabbits she knows in real life are divorced or re-married. I guess we prefer "flight" to fight. But I'm still trying to figure my life out. Thanks again..from my Pluto cave to yours!

Sand I thought day master was like asc too? Year sign is too vague, everyone looks different... What effects your physical appearance or style. Honestly the hour pillar would make sense to me. Year water monkey.. OMG im a leo HAHAHAHHAHAHAH. Explains why I have leo hair lol :P Month: snake! My vedic sun and asc is in taurus. Hour: snake Does this mean my moon conjuncts midheaven? lol..IP: Logged |
