I know a lot of monkeys, both in real life and in person, since i'm so interested in learning more about this sign, it being compatible with my sign snake.

And i couldn't help but notice that a third of them are shy. I can name a few monkey celebs off the top of my head who seem this way: Zayn Malik (the shyest one in OneDirection), Dylan and Cole Sprouse (energetic on the show, but very awkward and closed off in real life), Jake Gyllenhaal (Pretty much the way he was in Donnie Darko is the way he acts in interviews), Josh Hutcherson (He gives off the impression of being really open and engaging at first in interviews, but then u realize he's not), Tom Hanks (um, yeah.), the main character from The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

There are a bunch who aren't shy as well, like Will Smith, Hugh Jackman, Eddie Griffin, Brendan Fraser, Owen Wilson, Ryan Gosling.

But it's still weird that most of the ones I know in real life are shy, though they also let their crazy out from time to time .

I think that the chinese zodiac descriptions all describe the monkey as being super social and fun, but they dont mention that they also usually have a wall around them at the same time. It's almost like they dont trust anyone, or they act energetic and happy so that they wont have to admit their pessimism about people or distrust of them. Does that make sense? Am I going crazy? I actually kind of remember a description that mentioned that exact same thing about how they watch their back and are suspicious of others while hiding it with a smooth guy front.

Suzanne White says they don't like the spotlight, they like being behind the scenes fixing all the problems, but don't want everyone gawking over them for it.

My Libra Monkey son fits the description pretty well. He's only 8, but he figures stuff out that stumps the rest of us...like he finds lost objects all the time, figures out scheduling problems and room design issues. He likes when we appreciate his ideas, but gets embarrassed if we tell people or make a big deal about it.

He knew how to swim long before he got his swim band at the YMCA because he felt weird "showing off" for the lifeguard testing him. He hates being put on the spot, even when he's very good at what he's doing.

Gemini monkey here.

I am a guarded, not shy thou.
I like socializing but people rarely know about my personal life.
I only have a few people I consider friends, the rest is just people I can't trust or not interested in.

I would hate being famous just because others will always want to pry.
I don't like that at all.
I would rather be famous for what I create not who I am.

this is a very accurate description - the monkey I know is a cancer, so he tends to be shy by nature, but he has a real social awkwardness about him that comes out in crazy social energy; he can run about with nervous energy and seem energetic, but it's misplaced energy and most of us don't 'get' him. he seems high-strung very often and then very moody and reflective too. I consider him to be very childlike in behavior at times, and he is like a monkey in that he is a wonderful climber, and not afraid of heights at all, which he demonstrates often.

Yes i def agree with the childlike in behavior part and the high strung nature. Theyre known to be the erratic geniuses of the zodiac, and yes i agree, their energeticness seems to stem from nervousness. Thanks for helping me figure them out a little better! I am reminded of michael j fox, owen wilson, or will smith's crazy high strung energy haha. (All monkeys)

If you think about the monkey as in the actual animal, theyre actually also like that. They are energetic but seemingly without an aim or purpose...its an erratic nervous sort of hyperness....

Thank you, i thought i was going crazy. I feel trouble or uneasiness connecting with monkeys, but thought it was just me. I think im gonna stick to dragons. Monkeys are so multilayered and so hard to figure out

A Pisces Metal Monkey here, and exactly.

Someone asked me when I was a child if I wanted to be rich and famous when I grew up.
I responded, "Rich, maybe, but not famous - that seems like such a pain."

That description sounds a lot like my sister, who is also a Monkey. Not the easiest to figure out...

Phew. Not going crazy ^__^ lol good to know.
The fact theyre so hard to figure out is very emotionally destabilizing for me even tho there is a strong connection between us. Maybe its bc im a cancer with libra rising, i need emotional stability and balance. Someone who pretty much always acts one certain way all the time.

I know 2 monkeys, one an Aries, the other a Libra and the thing about them is their unwavering dedication to their ideals. Ya, they are kinda scattered/awkward in the social scene, almost like they are observing themselves from someone else's point of view. I wouldn't describe them as shy, just unwilling to initiate if there's a chance they "fail". I personally don't like the Aries because she takes herself very seriously.

"The image of dragon is blurred, misty, mystic, noble and untouchable. Since Dragon might be treated as Earth, Water, Wood or Metal, Dragon is unpredictable and intangible" http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/2012/

The dragons I know are more so unpredictable, also far less social, more discriminating about "inner circle" but usually loyal.
