Hey everybody! I have a quick question for you guys. When there is heavy Mercury influence in the chart does it manifest itself more through Virgo or Gemini qualities? Do you have a dominant Mercury and how does it act in your chart? I'm asking because the information I've come across is all over the place and I'd like to hear some opinions.IP: Logged |

To me Mercury in Virgo is more about writing and Mercury in Gemini about talking/being eloquent, but this is just my opinion.. http://astrology.about.com/od/mercury/p/MercuryVirgo.htm http://astrology.about.com/od/mercury/p/MercuryGemini.htm IP: Logged |

^ Yeah I agree with that. I have extremely heavy Mercury/Gemini influence. Extensive writing does not interest me very much.I would rather express myself through speech, however I do enjoy poetry because it can be performed.

My ruler is Mercury and also most aspected planet. I am ALL about writing and NOTHING about talking...Mercury is also square Pluto so when I do talk it can go either direction and it makes people uncomfortable around me because they never know what to expect. Oh. Mercury is also in Uranus' house and Uranus is in Mercury's house so I have all kinds of "lightning" going on upstairs IP: Logged |

Gemini Mercury: "socially nimble, trendsetter, delights with wordplay, bright, funny, sparkly, curious, flexible, playful, light-hearted, great mimic"Virgo Mercury: "concise thinking, dry wit, analyzer, linguist, perfect planning, editing and fact-checking, understanding systems, logical, commonsense, thorough" Scorpio Mercury: "intuitive, penetrating, probing, curiosity, drawn to mysteries, persistent, focused" Aquarius Mercury: "synthesis, innovation, originality, detached, objective, eccentric, neutral, inventive, open-minded, progressive" Pisces Mercury: "kind thinker, super creative, imaginative, intuitive, compassionate, seeing beyond, poetic, good intentions, transcendent thoughts, musical, divinely inspired, adaptible, empathic" ------------------ So, if you're a straight Scorpio it's called blunt, but if you're a gay Scorpio it's called sass!? Um, excuse me - no. IP: Logged |

I think strong Mercury in a chart manifests more Gemini than Virgo energy/characteristics ... But they have both writing and talking skills/interests^ Their mannerisms are just more Gemini-like.IP: Logged |

What is this Mercury influence? Having planets in either sign/equivalent house will obviously tend to that sign. Otherwise, Mercury is Gemini to me, so if Mercury is a strong contender, but there aren't influences from Gemini/Virgo, I'd say it defaults to Gemini. Virgo is the...I don't know the word um...the inward or passive expression of Mercury. IP: Logged |

Same here. I believe it's stronger in Virgo as far as "intelligence" goes, lol. Maybe I'm just biased Mercury in Virgo = Introvert Mercury in Gemini = Extrovert quote: Originally posted by charlie: My ruler is Mercury and also most aspected planet. That sounds very Virgo, or maybe I'm also being biased, lol. I think Gemini mercury is more well rounded to view the overall picture, while Virgo mercury is more methodical, but fails to take everything into account. True story, I'm a Mercury Gemini conjunct sun and my former coworker was a Virgo mercury. We were both web developers and had different approaches to work. My thinking is you want to complete client requests within an acceptable time frame. After all web is less time consuming than software development and shouldn't take as much time. I mean if a client request is as simple as update a page there is no way it should take a long time. While he had the opposite view as me and would rather be methodical. In end, I ended up handling the day to day requests and he would work on other projects that took more time. I ended up leaving as soon as I sensed that there would be cut backs coming soon plus I was looking for something more rewarding, he was a little slower to realize it plus he liked the pace of things.

Oh yes, I'm very slow when it comes to work, but I blame that on my Sun & Mercury both squaring Saturn. My Merc squares Saturn 0deg exact. Saturn in 9th house . Definitely slow to get things done. Lol, I call myself a turtle . But I like being steady ;3.Edit: The slow to learn bit is untrue for me. I loved school as a kid & always did well. I was actually obsessed with school/learning as a kid now that I think about it, hehe. IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone! I see that I am not the only one who's unsure about the nature of Mercury. I am not really asking how Mercury's behaving in the sign but how it is behaving in general (if that makes sense). Maybe it's just a combination of the two since they are two sides of the same coin anyways.IP: Logged |

Mercury is supposed to be at it's strongest and best in Virgo since it's exalted there. I think of Mercury in Virgo as the technician while in Gemini, it's the communicator/speaker and writer. Virgo is the worker and to me, that translates into "technician." Technicians have to be able to translate details into reality and that sounds like Mercury/Virgo. It's the difference between the two. IP: Logged |

I think that when it's just in Gemini these people will not take the time to sit down and write. It takes long hours, a lot of time alone and concentration on the finest details (Virgo). Just gemini would be too restless for that and never finish the writings. They need to be around people and communicate. PS: I have a Gemini ASC and Mercury in Virgo in the 5th. IP: Logged |

I have Gemini Mercury too and I'm friends to a few Virgo Mercury people (thankfully their Sun is in Leo) and I would have to agree that Mercury manifests much quicker and more fluid in air than in earth. In every job I've held, people will default to me and send me out to manage day-to-day interactions with clients. I happen to enjoy that but the Virgo Mercury people are slow and need to draw everything out, plan it, and then take up time to decide if the plan can be executed. Meanwhile all that has been going on with Virgo Mercury, my Gemini Mercury zips and finishes the job and I'm on to other things. Virgo Mercury takes too long to do anything and super nitpicky about stuff that's not even important. IP: Logged |

The default Mercury energy is widely recognized as Gemini.Gemini Mercury isn't limited to talking- hardly the case. It rules writing, reading, speech, advertising/sales, languages, and every other form of communication out there- including trade and commerce. Gemini is as masculine (outward) and social sign. It is interested with interaction with the outside world and other people. Gemini Mercury people do write a lot, and they'll write about everything and anything and like getting feedback. We're not impatient people but we are very fast and do a lot in a short amount of time so it's probably harder for others to keep up. Virgo Mercury doesn't comprehend this because it likes to focus its energy on a few topics. And wrong about Virgo being into writing. They can be, but not really their thing. Virgo Mercury is actually more comfortable with numbers and defined systems because Virgo likes to uphold established structure (earth is into boundaries). On the other hand, Gemini is air and likes to by-pass everything and don't put much stock into rules and structures. Gemini Mercury is unconventional and will explore and entertain weird, crazy, psycho stuff just for the fun of it. Virgo Mercury gets offended at even the thought of exploring something taboo or not mainstream enough to be considered "safe." That's the main difference. IP: Logged |

I have been a professional writer for 15 years. With mercury in Virgo. Other than liking to analyse I do not relate to anything else said about this placement. I also very much dislike structures and planning. Then again, my asc is Gemini. IP: Logged | |
