Hi there,I have been thinking a lot recently about my mother's natal chart. She has a ton of Leo in her chart, but hardly acts like one at all. She was abused as a child and always played second fiddle to her older sister. She has a lot of social anxiety and generally keeps to herself. Very passive (sometimes passive aggressive) and understated. Her synastry with my dad doesn't look great, but I can't help but wonder if this is altered by the fact that she was abused and it changed her personality. They have been married 35 years and get along really well. Does anyone know why she might not act like a Leo? How does abuse affect the natal chart?

I would look for the asteroid Dejanira which shows up, in abuse. Also, 12th house planets. I have not looked at the charts, yet, but will  ------------------

I suffered physical abuse as a child and it was interesting to look at my chart
I'm not sure childhood abuse can be seen by the natal chart although it would mean possible squares to the fourth house ruler, squares to moon and Saturn, also Mars could play a roleIn my chart Mars was square Pluto, I read up on it and apparently in a lot of charts this aspect showed in the charts of abused children, what was so interesting about mine was as I progressed it, once the aspect moved out of aspect, the abuse actually stopped at that very age In terms of your mother's chart there is a lot of lessons to be learned in terms of the tenth house, her own public view, career and things like that which would make her anxious, there are a lot of squares present, also Uranus her fourth house ruler is afflicted, her moon is as well
Saturn, the fourth house co-ruler is badly afflicted, most of this does point to bad family relations IP: Logged |

Very interesting natal she has.Also, the link to the composite is actually your mother's natal chart. But anyways, are you indicating that with all the Leo your mother has, she should be proud, sunny, and attention-stealing, maybe even outgoing and bossy? I could understand, given all those conjunctions in her chart! I think that is probably why the Leo energy is diffusing. Also, consider the house in which it is contained. Abuse can also completely alter a person to where a different part of the natal chart may be acted out, I need to look at the chart again to see why.
Edit: OMG! Saturn practically squares all her Leo planets! I feel like this can be an indicator of self-esteem problems, and even abuse. With Saturn squaring Mars, she may probably attract a lot of aggression, especially from Males or have trouble with authority. Self-control, especially given her stellium in the 10th house. I feel like she is extremely critical of herself and thus she may be reserved. Saturn is the co-ruler of her 4th house, ruling the home life, along with Uranus. Uranus is squared by the Moon and Neptune, maybe there are buried memories of abuse. Saturn is also ruling the 3rd house, representing siblings, and with it squaring all her inner planets, I can see competition and her being held to a standard her sister had achieved, maybe.

I have sun, mercury and nn in Leo and Mars squaring Pluto and I was never abused. I do have social phobia though. Once I feel comfortable enough in my surroundings I'm a raging extrovert though.IP: Logged |

That 1st house Saturn in Scorpio is going to make her more reserved regardless of what kind of childhood she had AND it squares her Leo placements. It's unlikely that she would ever have come across as a typical Leo, even without any abuse.Also your fathers Sun is on her Saturn and squares her Leo planets. She's used to that kind of energy, but Sun is a much gentler/loving/vibrant energy than Saturn, so those squares really aren't as bad to her as they would be to someone without all that stress already in their natal chart. Remember that in synastry, you always need to start with a good look at the two individual charts first. Plus the trines from your Dad's Venus must be very soothing to her. It's nice that you're taking such an interest in your Mom's background and trying to understand her. That's a very loving thing to do. IP: Logged |

@jkitty and @lazyscarecrow this info helps a lot. I did see some restriction in her aspects but I wasn't sure how much of an effect it could have.Her chart in particular was making me doubt astrology, but I think now it seems more clear. IP: Logged |
