I just discovered this http://www.interactivestars.com/lost_zodiac/lost_zodiac_sign.html

Just wondering what it's based off. Is it accurate for you?

I suppose. Could this be broken down by decans?

Mine was dragon - which reminds me of Leo anyways and is my Chinese zodiac sign.

Catherine Tennant ~ ^^

- it's nothing new really, I've mentioned the other constellations several times here and how they relate to the ones chosen in the "common" zodiac, how they have changed depending on civilization/era.

Tennant (and other astrologers) have long seen the constellations as representing various signs instead of restricting it to those we use today, the "lost signs" were never lost, they've just been eclipsed by those the Western astrologers embraced. Constellations (stars) came first, planets were added onto the signs as time passed and the mysteries of space were uncovered/discovered, astrology was honed. The symbolism is in the stars, but we focus on planets for rulership now more than ever. There's nothing wrong with embracing both (as I have for some time). For instance, take signs that have been thrown into the wheel (sidereal) today, Ophiucus~ ^^; It was a slow day for the media so they kinda slipped up on reporting on the others recognized by the same system... that's how I see it...

He's not alone...

All of the signs we know have had more than one established constellation across multiple cultures that explains some of the traits, some of the dynamics behind the sign they eventually became/came to bear... Libra is one of the greatest examples in my book, it has such a subtle symbol, but that symbol is one of the eldest, it holds the energy of Scorpio and Virgo in its stars, so unassuming yet so powerful, it shares the sky with the Crow/Raven (dove)... A lot of times a Libra or any other native will see they have such strange differences with how their sign is usually described/portrayed, and then astrologers reason out those differences as purely a matter of aspects to other planetary bodies in the rest of their charts... fair enough. But, sometimes you can see more of the native by looking at their stars, and seeing the symbolical significance these other constellations play into their chart.

I do wish we had an area dedicated to archaeoastronomy here - to discuss the different approaches ancient astrologers used compared to the modern scholars. ;;

Cancer is so often seen with the Crab/shellfish/crustacean - but she is also Keto/Ceto (the whale, the primordial sea goddess), or Aquarius and the Eagle (which strangely gets attributed to Scorpio's totem these days), and the waterbearer - who in earliest time was the overflowing well/chalice/jar "the flood". Scorpio and the crown of Ishtar/Inanna (tied into the legend of the 4 guardians/dragons/rivers of the fixed signs, Or Pisces and the fish/dual fish - which also is the swan... There's a time when Taurus was the 1st in the wheel... Taurus and not Aries... There were legends of Taurus and Scorpio sharing the same section of the heavens, fighting Orion and Chiron. The Bull isn't the natural enemy of Scorpio, but Chiron is, oddly enough. There's so much to dig into here~ ^^; I'll leave it at that~

but to sum it up - this is based on the stars, and the constellations that share the sky with those signs we recognize today... the Lyre is shared with Seagoat, Pegasus and Pisces-Aries (cusp), Perseus (Taurus/Gemini, oh dear Algol redemption a little, star of the conqueror, not just "demon star")... I think the only problems I have with Tennants listings comes down to the lack of dating of the constellations. It would add credibility to give more information on which periods gave birth to which constellations, and which civilizations supported the same or similar symbolism with those signs. And, also with her way of detailing certain myths in relation to these constellations, she seems to neglect older or neighboring symbolism/myth that would often better suit these examples... (Cup of Dionysus? No... Ea first and foremost, Dionysus came well after Ea ruled the symbol/sign, also Dagda - Dionysus is the new Zeus, the new "Dzeo"patr - Dionysus was the fish of the well, the original ruler of Pisces "fish", and "dolphinus" which was shared with Apollo, Apollo tied to Leto's frogs (Niobe) another long forgotten constellation of Pisces~!^^; so much....) But, over all it really is a good read for those who appreciate the stars, (which don't get nearly enough attention, I believe).
