What indicates musical skills in a natal chart? I mean playing instruments and composing music.------------------

MEEEE! I just discovered i have talent(asteroid) conjunct my moon :P
well idk that depends do you mean mozart like talent? Or someone who is simply drawn to playing instruments/composing despite their overall talent?

Cos i nominate myself as an example then 
I think if i put more effort toward music I'd be fairly good. I play piano and dabbled in some others that I quickly abandoned.
But there's nothing specific in my chart that i think would lend to me having a musical talent. Only my mars is sag in 3h for gemini and gemini is known for being good with their hands/instruments.
Also virgo i think i've heard is another indicator and good mercury aspects perhaps too. Taurus as well are very musical supposedly with writing/playing/singing. Triple threeeat! To make a career out of it i guess things would be aspected in 10th house right? Possible moon/merc for composing good emotional pieces. Things i've heard around here. IP: Logged |

Agree with Neptune prominent, I'm guessing on/to the Midheaven/Ascendant/first house. Then Venus/Neptune aspects. Both are artistic planets. Some Pisces, Taurus, Libra, 5th and 12th house. Moon for putting your emotion into said music. Mercury if playing a stringed instrument or the piano? (It rules the fingers.) Would help with composing, too, I bet, especially if you write lyrics as well. I see Gemini's been mentioned for this too and yup, I agree. I think Saturn helps for being serious about your music and the discipline to practice, practice, practice. For producing maybe Uranus/Aquarius? I think that ruled electronics. IP: Logged |

Ok...I'm too curious not to ask.Are Sun conj. Neptune and Uranus, Neptune conj. Uranus, Libra moon, Taurus Mars, 5th house Venus, Sun and Neptune, Moon sextile Mercury and Virgo rising "musical"? I feel I have potential but maybe I'm delusional  quote:

I've been playing the guitar for almost 8 years now (though I can't say that I'm a guitar maestro after all those years XD) and the piano but I haven't had much practice on the latter recently. Other than playing instruments, my main musical talent is singing if that counts for you teehee I agree with Venus-Neptune and Uranus contacts. I have Venus square Neptune and Uranus in the 7th. Placements in the 5th house which rules creativity could also be a factor. I have 3 planets tightly conjunct there in Scorpio, though my 5h cusp is actually ruled by Libra. I believe in Saturn contacts too for discipline. I have Venus-Saturn and Neptune/Uranus in Capricorn which is ruled by Saturn. ETA: My Pisces moon also trines my 5h planets (sun, mars and pluto), sextiles my Neptune/Uranus and squares my mercury. I have a Gem asc, too. I believe that I have the innate ability, but the passion to develop these creative talents is what led it to become skills. I believe that I have a natural aptitude in music but without the determination and TONS of practice, they would have remained just talents. IP: Logged |

At least you can play some instrument reasonably well. I didn't have such an opportunity but I'm going to make it up sooner or later and I hope daddy Saturn will help ------------------

Go for it then! I'm sure your daddy Saturn will whip you to perfection! (did that sound right.. Or maybe not? Lol)  Plus, your Sun-Neptune, Libra moon and 5h stellium would indicate creative talent right there I'm sure with constant practice, you will be able to make your talent into a skill. No genius ever became one without having to go through sone degree of hard work. Even Mozart had his own hardships before he was labeled a genius What instrument are you learning to play, btw? Wow, I just threw out some ideas, I love that some of them really fit you! Such a long list of aspects/placements there! All of that Libra and 5th house + Saturn is really going to help. And singing totally counts for musical talent. I've got this: Libra Rising, Venus 12th house, Moon-Neptune-Saturn-IC conjunction, NN and PoF 5th house (expressing myself through something creative makes me feel awesome) and 2nd house Pluto (could pose for Taurus influence). Lunae, none  I thought I just said that Well, I learnt for like a year to play an orchestral flute (wasn't mine unfortunately) when I was a kid but decided to give it up even though I was making progress and enjoyed it (long story). Then I sometimes played my wooden flute but it's so plain that I got bored. When I have some spare cash I'll probably buy a bass guitar and take some lessons. Yeah, I already have a vision, let's hope it'll come true...meissieri, I have a 2nd house moon and 5th house NN too ------------------

Thanks  Does anyone here is attracted to old-fashioned instruments? I'm fascinated with the harp (seems so magical) and harpsichord (so powerful). ------------------

I like the sound of the medieval English lute, especially when 'Greensleeves' is played. If the organ with those humongous pipes count as okd fashioned, I like that too and the sound it makes when it resonates through the church walls. IP: Logged |

Venus conjunct Mercury in the 5th house and sextile Saturn for the discipline needed to develop that ability. I really think some flowing aspects with Saturn would be absolutely manditory. Those I know who have the talent to play an instrument well (sometimes several) and compose music are VERY disciplined people. A lot of people may have natural ability but never really make the effort to develop it. IP: Logged |
