I tried this and the sign it seemed to indicate appeared to fit, not only by appearance, but by what I know about his life/tastes/approach. Wondering if anyone else has done this and if you later got accurate info that confirmed it. Just curious .

I thought rectification used transits of Saturn or the North Node to time important milestones in a persons life in order to try and determine the ascendant. I wasn't aware of anyone using horary for this.

So I'm assuming from your post that using horary for this is another means to try and rectify a chart. What has your experience been with this?

I've thought about doing this, but not sure how to go about it.

Do you just ask the question, and the ASC of the chart at the moment you asked the question is supposed to be their ASC?
Or the DSC?

Rectification is quite difficult - takes time, lots of accurate info, and good astrological skills.

Although some astrologers say they can do it (pretty sure there's even a program that does all the calculus and gives some interesting results).

I think the Descendant of the horary chart would be their Ascendant because in every horary question, the Ascendant is the querant. So the quesited would be the Descendant since you're saying "what is their Ascendant" and the 7th House indicates the other person.

Hm. . . maybe it would work. Awe astrology, you make me so hopeful!

Actually, it's more complicated than that. I take the significator of the querent and see what sign and degree that's in or, if it's making a very tight conjunction to another planet (less than 1 degree), take the sign and degree of the planet that it is conjuncting. I also check to see if the chart appears authenticated in some manner. For instance, if the basic birthdate gives the moon to be in Aries or Jupiter is very prominent because the individual would have a Sag stellium, does something in the horary reflect this? For example, perhaps the horary shows the moon to be conjunct Mars which could reflect the individual having an Aries moon. Or perhaps the significator is Jupiter and makes a lot of aspects in the horary. I think the authentication of the horary is VERY important for this kind of question.

I would agree JKitty.

Horary is very complicated, definitely.

If you're going to try to find someone's ascendant through horary you should do it here so we can all see what goes on throughout the process! We might even get more people to take a look that have a lot of experience with horary charts.

Most times I ask an horary question I get Aquarius as the ascedant of the chart, which is my natal ascendant, lol. Hmm, well but I didn't really get the other person's ascendant that way though. Then again, my question wasn't "What is x's asc?" so it might work.

I've never posted a chart here, but if someone else would like to post charts for me to use, I'd talk you through what I'm doing with it. I'd need a natal of the basic birthdate/place without the time (time unknown) and also a horary chart of the question stated something like "what is so-and-so's rising sign and degree?"

Ooo! That's very generous of you JKitty, thank you!

I don't have anyone myself and I believe that it should be a pressing question for Horary, right?

Hopefully someone desperately needs to figure out an ascendant and they happen to spot this.

You're welcome. Is your Username by any chance a reference to "The Importance of Being Ernest?"

It isn't actually. I just did a little research on that play and there is a funny connection.

I chose the username at random but it's odd because the play makes fun of Victorian ways and my real name happens to be Victoria.

Thank you for asking though because I most certainly will watch the film now. I watched a little clip and it had me in stitches!
