Do I have your attention? Made you curious?

Even if not, I want to share what I have been thinking.

You know how it is said that the upper half of the chart is relating to the partner, cause in the 7th house (the first or last house of the day-side of the chart) we encounter the "other"?

While this is all true, the 5th house has always thrown me for a loop, cause despite being int he half of the chart, relating to the "Me", it also always told a lot about what we are attracted to in others.

And then you listed the polarities:

5th - 11th
7th - 1st
8th - 2nd

And I noticed that all houses relating to what we are attracted to (5th, 7th, 8th) are on the WEstern side of the chart, while all the houses relating to how we present ourselves, are in the Eastern hemisphere. With the ASC and DESC not marking the beginning but the MIDPOINT of each hemisphere, divided by the IC-MC-line.

I have also been thinking that the 5th house is clearly oriented to another, but does it from an internal point of view. Just as the 4th house reflects out bonds to our family (sometimes soul-family).
The 11th house however, is of course related to society in a larger sense, but more so places US as individuals into that social environment. (thus the thing about hopes and wishes and friends and love received and so on).
This is how I am - in relation to my larger social environment, not in the sense of work or career though.

What do you think? Add your thoughts, please.

I'm Lotis White!

Astute observations! Houses 7 to 12 all deal with the effects of other people on us and us in relation to other people. Houses 1 to 6 deal with the cementation of our identity and us in relation to ourselves. H5 is indeed an attraction house, but because it's more like someone who you can express yourself around, someone you have fun with, the person you can party dance draw sing and groove with.

Just so, houses 4 to 9 are all related to growing and being shaped from interactions with other things, while houses 10 to 3 relate to the status of our identity moving in the world. It sounds familiar, but one half is the effects of our settings on us, the other half is the effects of us on our settings.

Everything is so perfectly crafted...

Hi Ceri,

My thoughts are…

Personally, I’ve always thought the self/other division was far too simplistic given the houses contained in the ‘other’ side versus the houses contained in the ‘self’ side. I can see, in a way, how houses 7 through 12 could be viewed as more ‘other oriented’. Especially the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th houses. Although the 12th house seems like an odd fit here (the 12th house describes how we are when either completely alone, or giving something away as a type of ‘charity’).

On the other hand, the Mc/Ic split showing the division between ‘self’ and ‘other’ makes sense, considering all the signs contained in the ‘other’ segment. But this puts the 11th house in the ‘self’ segment, which feels odd to me. The 11th house is where we further our own agenda socially, but it undoubtedly involves other people. The 10th house is also our ‘public’ reputation.

I guess what I really prefer is the division between personal, social, and universal signs, applied to houses as well.

The Personal signs and the corresponding houses are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and houses one through four.

The Social signs and houses are Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and houses five through eight.

The Universal or Transpersonal signs and houses are Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, and houses nine through twelve

This puts the ‘other’ oriented houses in a smaller segment (the ‘social’ segment), but it includes all the houses that show the bulk of what we’re attracted to… The social segment includes houses 5 through 8.

The 6th house isn’t so much an attraction house, but it does show how we perform as a helper for others, and what our role/duty is when it comes to taking care of daily necessary tasks. The 6th house also describes the ’others’ we work with on ‘required’ duties, either as co-workers, or employees. And it’s where we divide up labor between team-members, and where we serve or are served.

The ‘attracted to’ houses in the Social segment are a little more fun…

The 5th house, to me, seems to be about how we react when we’re inspired to towards self-expression by someone or something else. A classic example is falling in love and then writing a song or book about due to the personal impact this has had on our lives. It’s how we act with the aim of impressing others as well, when we want people, or a particular person to adore us…

In terms of the actual ‘other’, the traits connected with our 5th house show clearly what we’re impressed by, and who we ourselves are likely to adore. When someone ‘Blows us away!’, awes us with their persona, or tugs on our heartstrings, they’re often touching our 5th house in some way.

The 7th house is pretty obvious in the ‘other’ regard. This is how we act when we want to connect with someone because we see them as a suitable associate to have in life… They have potential to be a best friend, a partner in love, or a business associate. The 7th house is where we extend diplomatic relations out to others when we have decided we want them in our lives, and see ourselves as paired up with them…

When it comes to the actual ‘other’, the 7th house shows the traits we’re drawn to in others when looking for someone to pair up with. Basically, the 7th house shows who we easily warm to, like, and want to be around. People whose natal charts match the symbolism of our 7th house tend to make us smile with affection. We want to just be with them.

The 8th house our behavior once we’re already in the context of an established relationship. Behind closed doors, in private, this is how we’ll relate about personal intimate things that are for no one else but our partner know. It’s also where we’ll establish boundaries, power balance, and, yes, pull strings within the relationship…

With the actual ‘other’, the 8th house shows by it’s symbolism what we deeply yearn for, and need, to strengthen the bond within any partnership. When others act towards us in the style of our 8th house (positively at least), they cause our trust in them to grow, as well as our openness towards them about personal things, and our sense of loyalty.

***

If we use this system of division, the 2nd and the 1st houses are in the personal segment, and the 11th house is in the universal segment. These are the ‘attract with’ houses.

The 1st house has a “Here I am, take it or leave it”, type attitude. We move forward and initiate in this style, and attract people with similar attitudes. With the 1st house, we would do what we’re going to do anyway, and the people who like this would tag along with our imperatives.

The 2nd house has a “This is what I have, these are my bargaining chips” type attitude. The 2nd house describes what it is about us that we feel is of value, and what we’re seeking to use to acquire what we need. And also what we spend our money/resources on. Here, we attract people who value the same things as us, and see the value in what we have to offer.

The last ‘attract with’ house is the 11th which is situated on the universal segment.

The 11th house describes the type of groups we’re attracted to for furthering our goals/ vision of the future, and also the type of reception we like from others. We desire this type of reception from large crowds, as well as small groups, and, yes, individual people. The 11th house describes how we attract popularity in groups, and how we receive gifts and appreciation from others. In the sense of our social aspirations, and our desire to ‘fit in’, the 11th house is very ‘universal’. The 11th house is the house of ‘love received’ on a grand scale.

I use the enology of a celebrity to highlight this. A celeb would be in 5th house mode when their performing on stage, giving their energy and passion to the audience (the 5th house is the ‘love given’ house). They are in 11th house mode when they are receiving their applause, or on the street signing autographs, and answering questions from fans.

I think the personal side of the 11th house comes out in chart to chart synastry. When a single individual has positive influence on our 11th house in some way, they as a particular person can make us feel ‘popular’ and ‘welcomed’ with how they treat us.

I’ll go back to the celebrity example. The fan who goes up to the celeb gushing about up awesome they think they are, and says “I’m your biggest fan!”, giving the celeb a ‘feel good’ boost, is probably someone who as an individual has a positive influence on the celeb’s 11th house.

Us, as ordinary people, experience similar feelings from people who positively influence our 11th house. That boost that comes from feeling wanted, included, and welcomed. Here we attract people with our style of receiving, and what we see as relevant in society. We team up with these people. We also attract 11th house energy due to our ‘performance’ when in 5th house mode. Oppositions can show admiration for that which is different. And as such, our 5th house ‘performance’/ giving of passion and energy, results in a 11th house style of appreciation from the audience. Those that admire our performance (our individual natal charts describe the details of this).

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I see the 11th house as a universal house, that becomes individualized due to chart to chart synastry.

Since it also rules "pets", I very much experience it as an attraction house. My Venus in Pisces is there and I SWEAR I love cats more than people! I think it can be an "attraction of inequality" so to speak.
