I'm a film nerd. My taste are very eclectic. Fantasy or Sci Fi but, more from the (natural/unatural) disaster (post-)apocalyptic survival > adventure or at least mythopoeia sometimes (at least those with Burtonesque or Del Toro's aesthetics, somewhat grim elements) I even like storybook fantasy~ lol ...and not so much the space/alien (universe) kinda' theme - though sometimes... I do like screwball-comedy in space... I just really fricken hate aliens. - I love Period-based film theatrical operatic, and foreign even. (jidaigeki) ... but, I think my biggest draw to period-genre is in authentic or inspired by noir or gris cinema. Postmod 70's inspired/authentic films... I wonder if they can be considered period pieces today as well. The lines get blurred between genres. - I have to say my favourite of them all has always been and will always be horror. slasher, gore, thriller (thriller as in... well... any thriller subgenre) - b/cult films, monster, even some of those increasingly more cliche "found footage/camcorder/gorilla" horror films. I like experimental horror films that are done with either full appreciation to the masters and follow certain elements expected yet maintain an identity of their own. But, I also like horror films that are done with a certain contempt towards those standards and would rather mock or challenge the audience somehow for even watching them. ^^; It's hard to make a horror/thriller fall into the first group because you end up with washed out plots when people are not creative enough to do the genre justice. It's hard to make a horror/thriller fall into the second group because eventually someone strikes lightening and then everyone else wants to follow suit, which leaves that entire vein dry and unsatisfying. Then the creators are pigeon-holed into making senseless sequels with no imagination, or left struggling to break free with their next great idea or as is the case so often, never strike lightening twice. I'm picky... lol (oh~ And, I absolutely hate the no-win ending... I don't like a film that was enjoyable for 75% of the way and then just drops the ball with a horrendous ending, today this seems to be the predictable "we'll just let the bad guys win/everybody loses"-thing. I call that lazy and garbage. And, adding even more insult to the audience, they come back with a sequel and simply resurrect a good guy by some miracle or denial of the original ending... *coughcough* I'm looking at you, Insidious, you and your old woman crap ending and upcoming she's all gone sequel *coughcough* great....) ^^ So we have foreign, historical, period, musical, tragedy/human drama, crime, adventure, fantasy/sci fi, and horror/thriller/suspense ~ kinda like the idea of using the words "blood action mindf-k and violence" as a collective genre title. *laughter* you know who'd get it... Takashi Miike would. I think those are probably the easiest labels to sum things up under. I'm pretty sure most of them can be attributed to my Scorpio and Sagittarius influence/placements. Venus on S.Node 4h Sag Mars cnj Pluto 3rd Scorpio Mercury-Neptune-Jupiter conjunction 4h 9th house Moon I just don't much care for comedy, well... especially modern comedy. I mean, you take me back to Steve Martin and John Candy Planes, Trains, & Automobiles or Martin Short's Clifford, or the best of the bests, See No Evil, Hear No Evil (or even, mixing the fellas up and around some more) Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, The Three Amigos, Nothing But Trouble, Uncle Buck... I guess, I just really like specific performers who deliver their comedic brilliance in a very certain way, often found in a certain (recent) era of filmography. Rather than the over the top, crude, rude, lewd, sensational, brain-fart, IQ-lowering, gutter-filth comedies so common in even more recent times. Not that older films weren't in their own way "pushing envelopes"... they just didn't seem to push that envelope for the sake of pushing it. They were by far, more clever and more relaxing. ~though of course, I'm more comfortable with what I consider familiar to my childhood. Again - Venus in the 4th, on South Node. And, I probably despise romantic genre more than any other... no question. Don't get me wrong, I like the cheeeeeeeeeeese of Legend, Far & Away (Cruise), and adore The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge, (and even have a soft spot from years of watching it with my mother, for Dirty Dancing). But, I find that of all the exceptions to my hatred for being forced to endure romance films, there are always one or two common deviations from typical romances or romantic comedy... one has fantasy elements, the other brings in music/song-dance. But, you can't pay me enough to watch something like Ghost... even with the supernatural aspect! I'd rather roll in dirt and eat a can of worms. ~___~ *yawn* I wonder if that shows more with hard aspect or in some other way. But, the only definitive (major) hard aspects in my chart are both wide, square Uranus to Asc/DSC, and Saturn opp Moon. well... I guess maybe that is why, come to think of it. ^^; Sat-Moon doesn't like mushy crap, and Ura sq DSC gets bored to tears with heartbreak. Saturn and Moon would probably both prefer watching something funny that actually engages our brain cells, instead of attacking them like cancer. (there ya have it) (used Italics)~ *sigh* IP: Logged |

^I don't like war movies either. Strange for a Scorpio dominant, ehhhh lulz?I don't watch movies enough to really have a taste...my favourite movies are Kill Bill, Black Swan, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Hunger Games, and The Twilight Saga. What can you take from that? I go to the theatre a lot, but mostly for the experience of the theatre and not for the movies in particular. IP: Logged |

Inglorious Bs is not my taste, but I can do a war film or ones taking place during a war like Saving Private Ryan, The Pianist, Platoon, and Glory. They were all great. Some people can't take the sadness and gore. IP: Logged |

I like raunchy comedy and horror the most. I also enjoy quirky romantic indie movies like Ruby Sparks and Secretary. I'm an Aqua stellium (Mercury in Aqua) with a Plutonic moon, though. So maybe that makes sense.IP: Logged |

My Virgo moon critiques most movies with scorn, and picks apart the acting/directing, and only allows for suspended disbelief if it's a fantasy film.So my preferences are mostly classic horror (from the '40s to the '60s). Not offensively gory, but creepy enough to satisfy my Pisces/Lilith conjunction in the 8th house. The acting is almost always great, and the special effects are irrelevant, due to the limitations of the eras. I actually find the special effects from these films far more interesting than the ones we have today, because they had to be a lot more ingenuitive without the use of computers (or so it would seem to me). Mercury in Aquarius, perhaps...the special effects are also mildly entertaining, whereas films from today that tout *amazing* special effects bore the crap out of me. I also like Fantasy films, like Harry Potter, Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story, etc. I dislike movies that have (to my way of thinking) turned great fantasy books into long, drawn out, bloody battles scenes (perhaps my Sagittarius Neptune in 5th house there?). I usually dislike movies based on books, except the Harry Potter series and The Secret Garden ('70s version). I absolutely love Tim Burton films. I used to really like David Lynch, but as I get older and have a child and a reasonably normal marriage, Lynch seems a bit too twisted for me now. It used to be right up my alley. I absolutely cannot watch films that deal with atrocities like the holocaust, or bigotry, or other tragedies. I feel like real life is horrid enough, and reading/knowing about these atrocities is quite enough for me. I also generally don't like comedy. It has to be really hilarious for me to think it's funny. I love all Monty Python movies, and television shows like Flight of the Conchords, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development... Quirky, funny shows. An all-time favorite is The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the first animated film (in existence) from 1926. Amazing. So... Sun Pisces conjunct Lilith 8th house Moon Virgo Asc Leo Mercury Aquarius Venus Aries Saturn Cancer (11th house, cusp of 12th) Neptune Sagittarius (5th house) Hope that helps! IP: Logged | |
