I usually listen to "heavy music".HIM,Bullet For My Valentine,Sum 41 and such.(Moon Square Pluto. I seek depth)Rarely,I might listen to some more playful tunes.(Gemini placements and leo rising?)

Mostly I like independent label stuff, or local music (there's plenty of it where I live), but I also like some well-known musicians... Probably the Mercury in Aquarius there.

I think that my Pisces sun (chart ruler) and Lilith in 8th house created a love of gothy/depressing music when I was younger. (Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Smiths).

8th house placements and Venus in Aries, Leo rising may contribute to my love for bands like The Cramps, The Detroit Cobras, Black Lips, and other garage stuff.

Also, some of the rebellious placements (Pluto opposition Venus Aries) and Mercury in Aquarius lead to a nice love of original punk music (Misfits, Subhumans, Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Sex Pistols, etc.)

Saturn in my 11th house (cusp of 12th, but still in 11th) might contribute to the fact that I also like music that is political in nature (Dead Kennedys, some hip hop, and certain songs that deal with current issues).

I also can be found listening to very melodic music with somewhat profound lyrics (Elliott Smith, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens).

I like intensity in music, whether it's angry or sad, or simply describing life. The lyrics make the song for me.

Probably the 8th house again, and my Mercury trine Pluto.

Not sure exactly what planets are influencing what here, but I love music.

However, I absolutely cannot stand "mainstream" music. I actually miss out on a lot of good bands, and then come back to them later, because I can be a real pompous @ss when it comes to something being too "mainstream". That has mellowed considerably with age, but it's still there.
Possibly a generational thing...?

In the end, I dislike music that I consider shallow or meaningless, even if the song is catchy. I can deal with it, but I prefer something with a bit more guts.

I'm extremely critical of female musicians (not sure how that comes into play). I feel that many are simpering, and the only ones I've found that I truly love so far are PJ Harvey, Siouxsie Sioux, and Nico (of Velvet Underground fame).

Whoa...yeah, don't anyone get me started on music or film on here. Sorry, the Leo AC will go on and on if invited to talk about myself.

I have a thread in LC 2.0 about it and it's pretty much all there.

But to sum it up, I can listen to a *lot* of genres, all kinds of music: rock, electro, ambient, lo-fi, trip hop, indie, chillstep / dubstep, dream-pop, underground music.. death metal, hard rock, some rap even! punk, hardcore, jazz, movie soundtracks.. uhhh tons of things.

My Mercury rules a lot of things (ASC, SN, Moon, disposits a 6th house stellium, co-rules 5th house) so I think that's where the need for variety comes from.

Totally agree with you on the mainstream music. I can listen to it but it's definitely not my go-to type of music.
