A thing I notice people in the Astrology Community takes to the point of obsession is judging how compatible people will be based on Synastry .

I'm not lying I seen a lot of people throughout various forums including this one ask if they should pursue a person based on what his or her charts say before taking action. I even seen people asking for advice based on the synastry for their dear one in a relationship!

Some people in the Astrological Community I've been to even refuse to consider a person if the chart shows a lot of negatives.

To begin with people don't always match their natal charts and some birth times are wrong.

But lets assume the people involved in Synastry match their Natal charts 100%. And their Synastry confirms a highly compatible relationship. As in near 100% ideal.

So we have a perfect relationship ehh? I DON'T think so. The Natal Chart can't tell the interests of the two people which are ONE of the MOST IMPORTANT factors in how well a relationship will succeed. It doesn't take into account differences in cultural, religious, ideologies and political beliefs, and social background and life experiences which honestly are the MOST IMPORTANT factors in a successful relationship. It doesn't take into account how attractive the two people being compared find each other (as ridiculous as it sounds GOOD LOOKS actually play an extremely important effect on how well a relationship will occur-esp. for some individuals).

And it doesn't take into account external factors like money and so forth.

I really am of the school I play the major part of the direction the relationship goes as does my partner and unexpected factors.

I'm the much the kind of person who only looks at Synastry once I actually learn more about the person (as in we've been FRIENDS, not the "Acquaintance" I see you at work everyday kind of friend). In other words I'm the very last person you'll see who will be using Synastry or comparing our Zodiac Sign to see how well the relationship goes out. Because I honestly believe you cannot really tell how compatible you are with a person until you know them. I am off the school to even hope to use Synastry you must have known the person for sometime and even then it should enver be taken to seriously nor literally and at best as an indicator of red flags in the relationships to solve.

The interests you share, your background and various beliefs, and good looks play a far more important role than Synastry can ever hope to do so.

Properly done, synastry always begins by evaluating the natal charts of the individuals. You don't hear that often enough here. If you understand how to analyze the relationship signature of a chart, it can clue you in to the type of person someone will find fulfilling. If a person doesn't resemble the "type" that your relationship signature reveals, the "best" synastry in the world won't mean a thing. Most of the time, people skip this basic step and are too quick to jump to looking at aspects.

Having said that, you DO need to know the actual individual to see for yourself how well they are fulfilling their potential, what kind of choices they're making in dealing with their energies, what their life circumstances have been, if they've risen above or fallen under the challenges that life has dealt them, etc.

There are many good posts in the archives for those who want to really understand, but all too often people just want the astrological equivalent of "microwavable" -- "instant relationship, just check synastry and stir" might describe those. So you get an abundance of shallow and similar posts sprouting up like mushrooms.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of very young people who post here. Hopefully they'll outgrow this as they gain some life experience. But I really do wish more people would search the archives before posting yet another thread on ____________.

I'm not the biggest fan of synastry. I am fascinated by natal charts but synastry charts are often difficult to read, they do not have the exact number of degrees. I have an easier time looking at someone's natal chart, seeing where they are coming from, kinda like a road map to their psyche, and if any synastry does crop up, it's me mentally comparing my degrees to theirs, not by looking at a proper synastry chart. I note conjunctions first, then oppositions.

But I do wonder, if synastry comparisons were never made, would two people get along better? It's a "power of suggestion" thing. Why not wait until problems crop up, then use synastry charts as a way to help figure out what is going on?

"Great" synastry depends on what a person likes/needs/wants. People with a lot of natal squares would be BORED with too much "flow" in a synastry.

But if you have Venus square Moon in your natal, you'd probably ENJOY someone else who has Venus square Moon in their own chart simply because you both "get" each other's internal conflict and can relate to it. How do you think you'd feel about someone with their Venus on your Moon and their Moon on your Venus? You'd both be able to relate to each other very well, even though it's a "hard" aspect for both of you natally and also forms a square in synastry. Yes, it's not likely, but it you ran across such a person, you'd probably click (based just on this one thing and not considering the rest of either chart).
