I posted this in the Beginners Forum some time ago without answer. I wasn't sure if really was necessary to post here, but I suppose I will. I know someone will explain it to me.

I've done SOME research on progressed charts and the way I understand what it said was that basically it represents the personality that you are becoming....?
However, I hear everyone here and anywhere else referring to their natal birth chart and to be honest, that's what I feel a connection with.

So what is the purpose of a Progressed Chart? Not to imply that there isn't one, just what is it?

I'm extra curious because several, mostly personal planets in my birth chart are late in degrees and such. So in my progressed chart that I looked up for free, a boatload of my signs are different.

Thanks!

Ya LL has lots of other forums that like, no one goes to so really Astro 2.0 is your best bet and if it gets moved, good luck getting a reply lmfao!

Any ways, the way I see progressed charts is they add like...a layer on top. It's like having your natal placement act like your progressed placement!

Well. I think I dont agree much with how most people progress your charts. Anyway this is how I think of it. When you are born as a baby you a rapidly adapting to the environment, letting the planets effects, your feelings, thoughts, and the environment guide you. Everything is reacting at once. The planets positions and the houses deeply gets ingrained into your brain at the first moments of life. That is the time where the planets positions are most significant to you for the rest of your life. So after you are born, as the earth rotates, the planets enter into new houses but mostly stay in the same signs. As the planet moved into a new house, maybe 20 minutes after you were born, your brain is now adapting to the planet being in that house. So your brain is being hardwired to that new placement. But the original placement was more strongly hardwired into you because your first moments of life are more significant. Your ascendent changed 12 times on the day you were born and your brain adapted to that. But most of us only have our ascendent change/progress signs 2-4 times max in a life time.

So how they calculate your new ascendent, which I assume they have deemed accurate from real life test and observation, is that your ascendent moves 1-2 degrees for every year that you are alive. So if you were born with your ascendent at 5 degrees in leo and you are currently 11 years old. Your ascendent will probably be anywhere from 16-27 degrees in leo. And so to progress my chart I look at the placements of all of my planets at the time that my ascendent reaches a certain degree. So I am merely calculating which houses my planets were in minutes and hours after the time I was born. I believe that this is the most important time that the planets angles get engrained into your head.

But others think the progressed chart is like calculating one day for one year of being alive in your chart. Let me make that more clear: if you are 5 years old, you look at the planetary placements 5 days after you were born and those placements are supposedly your chart for your 5th year of life. I personally do not find that nearly as accurate as my personal method of just calculating your chart an hour or 2 after your birth. Because our ascendents only change signs a few times in our life time, yet if you calculated your fifth year of life according to the latter method I mentioned, your ascendent would have changed 60 times in 5 days. Which is not really the case is it?

I do believe that our brain definitely adapts to our current environment always and that it adapts strongly to the planetary positions days after we were born. But I do not believe those positions to be nearly as significant as my first progression method mention.

That's just something I wanted to get out there. Thanks for reading.

Anyway. How I look at your progressed chart is that your original self is the natal chart which you still are at your core, but your progressed chart is what you are living in the present moment. It is like a new layer over top the old one. With my ascendent now progressed into Pisces from Aquarius, I feel like i have a much more piscaen approach and view on life. In fact, I generally get along with negative signs a lot more now then I did when I had a positive signed ascendent.

So your original natal chart is still the strongest part of you, but your progressed chart will have planets in different houses and maybe signs, which would involve new feelings, behaviours and perceptions of the world which you are currently living.

Wow, thanks!
I did read all of it.
It makes sense. I'll continue to look into this as I get more knowledgeable in general and see what both calculations produce.
