Self-made men? Weak Mars or Strong Mars ... ?Do you mean people that got to fame by help of no others?

I was also expecting Aries or Capricorn because Mars is expected to be strong in these signs. They are courageus warriors and I expected them to have success and to end up leaders. IP: Logged |

Well a person with a weaker mars would feel it more, people that have plenty of hard aspects work harder than people who have cushy placements and soft aspects.IP: Logged |

Also check the aspects to Saturn. For instance,Sun Square Saturn does have it's cons BUT it makes the person a natural leader.IP: Logged |

That's so true. This is why you see so many successful people with a lot of tense aspects. They have more energy, too. This goes for squares an oppositions. I wonder about conjunctions.

Mars is how you go after what you want, so Mars really is the most relevant out of all the planets and luminaries, for this subject.Scheming behind backs is more a Scorpio thing. I think the reason you see a lot of Mars in Cancer on there is because they're driven (Mars) to want to take care of home (Cancer) and be able to take care of (Cancer/moon = nurturing) themselves and others. You need some money in order to do that. I'm a Mars in Cancer and my primary motive for being in college is entirely survival-oriented like that. And I said as much on my admission essay - "I want a degree so I can have an opportunity to get a GOOD job so I can provide by myself." We can be just as ambitious as Mars in Cappy people, only where their motivating factors are power and status and material things, ours is ultimately just survival. We can be extremely motivated when we feel like our ability to meet our NEEDS (food, shelter) are at risk. IP: Logged |

This is true, but I realized recently that I think they're so motivated to go out into the world and do something big because inside they're all messed up because of the squares and oppositions. All that inner turmoil, so they aggressively pursue outer goals to try and feel better and feel a sense of validation from external sources. A person with an easier chart doesn't have all those issues so they don't feel like they need to look outward to other stuff. IP: Logged |

These lists are a bit short to mean much statistically. We'd need hundreds of charts to get to the bottom of it, and more stringent criteria for what constitutes a 'self-made' person. I think we'd also need to see the whole chart of somebody rather then just one placement in their chart. What if their is an Aries theme for instance but one person has ARies Suns, while anther has Aries Moon, while another has Mars Conjunct Sun... looking at only the Mars sign for something like this may not tell the whole story. I mean, you have a list that includes both Elvis and Napoleon in the same category. I suppose one link might be charisma, ability to lead/catch attention... But putting it under the 'self made' label gives to wide of a scope. That includes millions of non-famous professionals whose charts we'll never see. IP: Logged |

I personally believe Mars in Taurus or Leo because they are fixed and more materially oriented that Scorpio and Aquarius, but that's just my opinion. I would also look at the hemispheric orientation of the chart. Charts with most, if not all, bodies on the left side of the chart are indicative of someone having to work hard for what they earn, where as a righty orientation show things coming more easily.IP: Logged |

I looked up famous men with Mars in Cap and Aries - and there are some self-made ones there as well. I don't think the self-made thing is related to any one placement. I can totally relate although my mars is in aries but it sits in 10th house. I'm motivated to have a career that allows me decent financial stability to provide for my family and self. IP: Logged |
