As I recently became a Movie Buff and been watching more and more Movies, an old issue I've wondered about for years came back to my head.

Within the Movie Community the fans of Classic Hollywood Cinema frequently bash new Movies as inferior. If you don't know Cinema History, the Classic Hollywood Cinema was the style of making Movies generally as s from 1927 beginning with the Jazz Singer to the end of the 1950s. There's a big perception among many movie goers-especially people who lived in this era and fans of movies of this era-that "they don't make them like they used to" and that new Movies are all in all no match for Classics of the old days such as Gone With the Wind and Rebel Without A Cause.

I admit I am a fan of Classic Hollywood Cinema-most of my favorite Movies such as His Girl Friday (fav Romantic Comedy) comes from this era of Movies. But when I see comments like "the 1950s made the best movies" and such, I can't help but role my eyes.

I've been watching lots of movies lately a bit from every era that I can find and I will state directly that Classic Hollywood Cinema has its share of absolutely terrible films that are best forgotten and never should have been transferred into modern formats save for the fact that they are important parts of Cinema History such as Sword of Lancelot and the 1930s Scarlette Letter.. That Classic Hollywood Cinema fans and people who lived in this age cherrypick the cream of the crop from this era of Movies and compare it relatively average films today such as Jarhead. This is NOT an appropriate comparison.

Now how does this commentary of comparing old movies and new movies have to do with gaming, the primary focus of HowLongtoBeat?

I've noticed the exact same complain come from many gamers-specifically those who lived through the Golden Age of Gaming (1980s) and the Golden Age of Arcades (early 1990s).

They complain that so many modern games like Halo and Call of Duty are no match for the Classics of the old days such as Donkey Kong, the 2D Sonic, and the original Mario Bros..

That so many games today rely on senseless violence and pretty graphics and lack the substance of the games of the old days.

Well my opinion is exactly the same as Classic Hollywood Cinema VS Hollywood Cinema-people cherrypick the masterpieces of the era and compare them to average (or above average games as the examples I mentioned above) as proof that modern gaming is inferior. while ignoring all the crappy stuff from the same period such as Custer's Revenge (one of the most racist games ever) and the bad port of Mortal Kombat to the SNES.

So you can guess what the rest of my opinion.

What do you think?Do you honestly think new games are inferior to old games or do you share the same opinion I have on Classic Hollywood VS Modern Movies?
