So i just came across an article about highly sensitive people and when I read the characteristics, I was like OMG..... THIS. IS. ME!!
Here's the link for the article by the way: http://www.plumturtle.com/PlumTurtleCoaching/Home_files/HSP_Intro_Handbook.pdf

Some info from that page;

High Sensitivity, also called Sensory Perception Sensitivity, refers to people who process internal and external stimuli much more thoroughly due to a biological difference in their central nervous system. Essentially, as information is received in the brain it is processed through filters that provide insight and awareness to the environment around us. HSPs simply have far more
filters than other people. This provides greater insight and awareness, yet is also consumes energy and takes time to process and decide on a course of action. And, although everyone can refine their abilities, HSPs cannot simply turn-off this trait anymore than someone else can turn it on.

HSPs may notice higher than average awareness of and sensitivity to:
• The 5 standard senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell)
• Medications, caffeine, alcohol, etc.
• Emotions, both their own as well those of others
• Subtle changes in the environment
• Intuition or extra-sensory information

This doesn’t mean HSPs have more acute senses, but that their brain refines the data into much
more detail than other brains. (HSPs don’t see better, they just register more of what they see.)
It is important to realize that this is a natural trait, occurring in about 15-20% of the population.
Because of this trait, the mind of the Highly Sensitive Person works differently. HSPs tend to:
• Demonstrate better than average ability to spot errors or differences
• Be highly conscientious
• Be highly creative
• Concentrate deeply with a high degree of focus
• Be aware of even small changes in the environment (and can be easily distracted by them)
• Process material to a deeper level
• Be specialists at fine motor movements
• Posses deep awareness of their own thoughts and body condition
• Be drawn to be of service to others

So now I know I'm a HSP. I checked with two good friends of mine, showed them the article and told them to read it (because I think they're HSP too).. and it turns out, it's also true for them!

What could be an astrological reason for being highly sensitive? Are you also a HSP? Or do you know someone who might be a HSP?

In our case, I know we all three have Cancer Moons.. so I thought that could be the reason for this.

i went to a clairvoyant and she kept telling me how sensitive i am. like a bunny rabbit.

i am for sure sensitive to alcohol (my whole family is, though) and to moods and atmospheres. i am very sensitive and in-tune to the moods of others and need to try to consciously keep out bad vibes to not affect me.

i figured it was moon in 6th trine neptune and that i have scorpio ascendant w/ pluto in 12th

edit:
i wonder if this may have anything to do with my ADHD - being easily distracted by changes etc but i have hyper-focus on certain things.

Yea, I have Cancer moon, too. Sounds about right for me.

When I was a child people would always complain that I would whine and cry about any little thing . Always been labeled sensitive..

I can relate as well. Before I found out I have ADHD, I actually thought it was hypersensitivity!

Lots of 12th house and cardinal/mutable in my chart. Plus maybe Moon conjunct Neptune?

Anyway, Pisces/Neptune/12th house energy I'd say, Neptune is very sensitive and picks up everything from around their surroundings. Good for you you finally found out about this! Bet that's a relief, isn't it?

Lol aww
Yes, me too. I was especially clingy with my parents, being an only child. I could never be left on my own for too long if my parents went out or something, or if they were late in picking me up from (elementary) school even by a few minutes, I'd start bawling my eyes out and the teachers would try and console me >_>' lol
But since around the age of 8 I began to outgrow that and got used to being on my own. my parents would go to work the whole day and they'd either leave me at a family friend's house or at home by myself.
I'm almost 20 now and I actually find myself needing a lot of alone time/solitude, and get irritated/moody if I'm around too many people for a long time.
I always have to retreat and spend some quiet time in my room.
My parents call my room my "cave" lol.

yup i am definitely a HSP. i think a lot of my friends are HSP's as well. im an actor so i hang out with artists. its like a totally different genre of people, if you hang with them and then hang out with non artistic (for lack of better phrase) people, you immediately notice the difference.

I have a 2nd house Cancerian moon.

My Moon trines Neptune. (Sextiles Saturn and Pluto).

I have Venus in ultra sensitive Pisces which squares to Neptune and Jupiter in Saggy. (This adds for greater sensitivity as well as the Moon trine Neptune.

Moon sextile Pluto has a in depth feel to it.

Mercury in the 12, I have found to be intuitive and works well with my Venus in Pisces.

Though those are the chart indicators. Though, I think some of my sensitivity comes from the deeply traumatizing childhood that I suffered.

I question if it is natural for me or just a learned thing....

My best friend and I are both HSP. For me, I think it's...

ASC conjunct Kaali in the 12th
Sun/Mercury conjunct Neptune
Sun/Mercury sextile Pluto
Neptune in the 6th
Pisces MC

Me, too!

A few years ago my psychoanalyst friend said to me out of the blue, "I think you're an HSP. You should read up on it." I asked what it was and she explained, then added that I am very intuitive, seem to have a good sense about what to say and what not to say.

I often put my foot in my mouth so this was like the highest possible compliment and relief. Maybe I say the right thing occasionally after all?

My sensitivity comes from being...

- A Rabbit
- 8H Pisces moon
- 12H Saturn ruling, and in mutual reception with, my 6H sun
- Scorpio NN
- Venus conjunct Neptune; Neptune aspects most of my chart including my ASC

...and probably some other stuff like this horrible haircut I had in Kindergarten which caused other children to bully me (just for starters.)

based on the people I know, I feel like there may be more HSPs than not out there!

I think we all are, but some people turn it off.

How can you just turn it off? I feel this is how you are no matter what and it`s something you can`t just turn off. Some might not be aware that they are hyper sensitive but they still display the qualities like detecting very subtle clues and soaking in other people`s energies. I can`t tell you how many times i`ve heard someone say something that has just out of nowhere been preoccupying my mind lately just to hear later on it comes out of a familiy members mouth or a friend`s. Even on here i`ve had strange things happen where i might suddenly feel like making a thread about something that really hasn`t t interested me much just to see someone on here make a thread about it. We soak in energies from left to right and sometimes we are aware of it and sometimes were not.

I`m a 12th house Cancer Moon.

High sensitivity comes from water, imo.

People with water ascendants, and/or with water moon tend to be highly sensitive.

I've learned how to turn it off. Or at the very least, detached myself from it. Libra moon helps tremendously with that.

HSP is Autism.

The 'founder' of HSP, as well as a majority of their family, have later found that they are all autistic.

HSP was a desired title for something they didn't know they had access to. HSP is also moreoften used as an escape of the 'title' of Autism, as there are a lot of stereotypes and ableism baked into our societal worlds that deem autistic folk as 'lesser' than.

Please understand that the term HSP is extremely harmful to those who are autistic, as it's often used as a way to 'soften the blow' of learning one IS autistic. Please understand that HSP is rooted in (originally un-) intentional ableism.

Autism has different levels and manifestations. HSP is usually more narrow set of symptoms.
HSP could be a symptom of Autism and ADD, and other things.

“Hypersensitivity, also known as being a “highly sensitive person” (HSP), is not a disorder. It is an attribute common in people with ADHD.” http://nhahealth.com/adhd-hypersensitivity/#:~:text=Hypersensitivity%2C%20also%20known%20as%20being,common%20in%20people%20with%20ADHD.

I'm not sure if you're adding on to what I said or just in general, but this is a good response.

HSP is a framing focus on the symptoms while ignoring what they are symptomatics of (as you said, typically ADHD and/or Autism). I just want to reiterate that the phrase 'HSP' is typically seen as harmful and detractive.

Either way- thank you for replying as well, Librapurr!
