there's actually a form of astrology where your chart is interpreted as a guide to show what you've done in your past life, and what you should accomplish in this lifetime.
it's called karmic astrology, and it might just be what you're looking for.

in terms of plain ole western astrology, i think, as stated above^ north node shows your destiny, even though it's generational:
