I noticed the same when I went through a couple of her books. And one reason I did was because I saw some of her early writing pieces and they seemed sane and rational. She was a right wing conservative but not like what she'd become later (ie, today). But when I shared a brilliant article from the 90s (nothing like what she'd put out today) the instant reaction was, "Ann Coulter, yuck!"

So I went to the library and was gobsmacked by what she was like. And I did check some footnotes and she distorted the facts even more than most best selling political pundits, it was downright absurd. And yet that book (and one like it) was a best seller, unlike the stuff she wrote back when she was being rational and even handed. That's why I figured she was putting on a show more than being sincere (like a wrestler so to speak), even if she was sometimes downright cruel and beyond the pale about it. She found her schtick that made her rich and famous and ran with it, and many will hate her but it's kinda hard to care when you're laughing at the haters (and maybe even her own fans) all the way to the bank.
