To anyone who has Mercury in the 9th, or anything in the 9th aspecting Mercury, do you find people expect you to speak in an almost "essay style," even when just making small talk? (Asking since 9th house rules higher learning and publishing.)

Sure. I forgot to add, how does it play out for you (to anyone)?

I have merc in 9th I don't know if people expect that, but I can write like That, bc its in cap, so I am all facts when I write, unless I really try to pretty it up. It's more formal, like academic essayish. I'm like that with astrology, especially, bc it all comes so fast to me and if I don't write it quick, I'll lose it. So it's a little dry and clinicaish when I break down a chart unless I really try to make it less so. If I stop to make it less formal I lose too much info that I picked up on in the chart. I try to get it all out as quick as I can before I forget everything that came at me when I first looked at it and figured out what was going on.

I have Mercury quincunx Mars in the 9th. I haven't noticed such an expectation. Actually, there were people who seemed to feel overwhelmed with my "essay mode"...

Maybe "expected" is the wrong word choice here, but I've noticed it from people when they're around me sometimes. My chart ruler, Neptune, sextiles my Mercury Rx in the 12th. I was curious about other people's experiences who have Mercury (or Mercury aspecting) their 9th.

Maybe since merc is in the 12th and rx, sextile nep, people think you're unclear so ask for more info and clarity in how you talk to them?

Actually, that hasn't happened to me. It's more like others seem to "expect" (for lack of a better word) me to communicate more "scholarly."

Can you give me an example? Is it that they want you to use bigger words or more formal speech or go into excruciating detail ?

Mercury in the 12th square moon in the 9th.

It seems to me that they hate it. I'll ramble on and they start to drift off. LOL

I've got Mercury in Sagittarius and I can barely start a thread without a massive essay appearing in the OP! Sagittarius/9th house/Jupiter stuff is concerned with the overall pattern of things, and the meaning behind a concept rather then random collections of facts and figures (that’s Gemini/3rd house/Mercury type stuff).

Gem collects data and Sag interprets it.

I have a hard time sticking to making simple statements. I always seem to want to elaborate on the meaning behind what I’m getting at.

I haven’t so much noticed other people expecting me to be like that, so much as I’ve noticed that I am like that. I've also got a Sagittarius Asc, Venus, and Neptune, and my Mars and Saturn are in the 9th house.

Saturn in the ninth Square Mercury in the eleventh.
People always expect me to speak with an essay style because I usually do BUT not always.Especially not when I am bored.
